Wolves 0-1 Villa: Verdict Thread

My bad, yeah I agree with TT but generally not that fussed - any of the 4.

We're using a career DM as our most advanced midfielder a lot of the time and expecting a level of finishing which isn't part of his skill set. Would have liked to see us be more proactive + positive with the subs today - Dendoncker should have come off a bit earlier and it would have surely been worth giving Vitinha a go, or even just bringing on Ait-Nouri for Marcal like we used to with Vinagre coming on.
I was surprised we only used one sub today, especially with a game on Tuesday night...

Next two home games, Chelsea and Spurs, how many points do you think we will get ? Will we even score ? Im starting to get twitchy.

Let's start with a positive. We had 16 shots of goal and 7 on target and Martinez in goal was there man of the match. Defensively Nelson has had a brain fart and given that prick Mike Dean the chance to give yet another injury time penalty against us. He doesn't like wolves right backs does he. I thought Mike Dean had an absolute shocker handing out yellow cards left right and centre to both sides! I don't think 3 or 4 of those cards were actually worthy of a yellow. Grealish was probably the worst foul and he got his yellow. Silva battled upfront but has neither the nous or the strength to lead a line in the Premier League at the moment. That has been said several times.PodenceWas awesome! We are in trouble if we create and don't score yet can't keep a clean sheet. We need two or three signings in January
How does Silva become a great Wolves player if he is not ready yet? He was the closest to scoring today. Experienced Dendocker hits hits piledriver straight at the keeper; the most experienced player manages to get sent off, & Semedo with 82 appearances for Barcelona gives away a penalty needlessly. Bar for 1mm we would have been talking about how Silva won the game for Wolves.

The ridiculous comments concerning Silva really annoy me. How does Silva become a great Wolves player if he is not ready yet? He needs game time & he will thrive. He was the closest to scoring today. Experienced Dendocker hits piledriver straight at the keeper; the most experienced player manages to get sent off, & Semedo with 82 appearances for Barcelona gives away a penalty needlessly. Bar for 1mm we would have been talking about how Silva won the game for Wolves.

Cool your jets buddy! Silva may be a world beater soon but he isn't yet. He also has neither the height, strength or nous iof Raul. That's not hate its fact. I think Silva will be great: he is just not what we need now.

Not sure he's been overly criticised other than to say he's not ready to lead the line in the PL at the moment. There is criticism to be given to the club for leaving us exposed to a Raul injury. The fee was and is ridiculous but that's not on him.

Thinking about it, given the money pumped in and the internal profile given there probably is criticism to be had for the Academy that they haven't provided a competant option to step up. BAS, Ennis, Samuels all subs at best in League 1/2

I really don't understand how you can say Silva isn't ready for the PL when so far he's constantly been in good positions, linking play, and today was closest to scoring. He's played what, like 120 minutes? And people already writing him off? Good grief. But he's definitely unlike Neto or Traore, who are absolutely taking the league by storm. :cautious:

Is he 100% ready? Well, no, probably not. He needs to gain some muscle and aggression, those are fair criticisms. But he doesn't have to be perfectly ready to play a role this season. Worst case scenario, what's he gonna do, not score? Truly our side would suffer by having a non-contributing forward on the teamsheet.

Corbeanu is around the first team squad now. I don't know enough about him though to say whether he can play any part though.

Ennis had the ability for sure but injuries have moved him from being a very highly rated prospect (the likes of Chelsea definitely wanted him before we got him on a pro deal) to someone who'll probably find his level in the Football League somewhere.

Samuels only really got any attention because he scored in a friendly once (being better than Joe Mason is no mark of anything). BAS we signed from outside and was never going to be good enough, again shouldn't even have been mentioned in relation to the first team, people kept banging that drum just because he played one cup game. He was never going to feature properly.

He is central striker. He has no goals. That’s about it in a nutshell. Saiss has more goals than him

He's not and in the role we want from him it's not really close. He bounces off defences, a simple block kills the runs he makes, that's not his fault, but he has to bulk up before he can do that job. Comparing to others who aren't playing in the same position is false equivalence. He needs to play, because that's where we are at so we need to get players around him to support him

The point still holds that we are relying on an 18 year old kid that hasn't developed physically like Rooney did at the same age as our first back up for Raul's injury. You can look at recruitment or youth team player development, but one way or another it's a club failure

I'd rather play Fabio than sign utter shite like Nelson Oliveira (or someone like Huntelaar who was about as mobile as a skip five years ago, not that he'd come anyway), which is still a road some want to go down.

I don't want players at the club who never have been and never will be good enough, what's the point.

I said last night taking Raul out of our side really is a leveller between ourselves and many teams in the bottom half. Also bringing in an experienced striker to play back up to Raul is hard to do knowing full well Raul is always first pick.
Can’t be ignored that some players who’ve been pivotal for us over the last 2 half seasons have either left, injured or are performing way below the standards we know they can perform at.
Boly and Neves have looked way below their best this season, Johnny and Raul out for a long time it’s going to have a huge impact.
The bottom 4 are so bad that we should have enough not be concerned about a getting dragged in but I’m not arrogant enough to assume we couldn’t.

I know he gets brought up for good reason as we appeared to be genuinely interested in him last January, but you don't have to sign crap. I advocated Watkins in the Summer who wouldn't have started the season and may have always gone to Villa with the Smith connection, but he'd be in the side now and offering more than Fabio

Aye, but Fabio has a much higher ceiling, surely.

Not having a go at anyone but seasons/transfer windows don't exist in isolation, if we think our guy might be leading the line for Portugal when Ronaldo finishes then we're better off with him than someone who looks ok at this level but not much more than that, and was still far too expensive for what he is.

Plus out of the two today, Fabio had the better game, Watkins didn't do much at all.
