Wolves 0-0 Brighton (Shit we're now 5th) Thread

It didn’t sound it on tv

And even then with only one shot on target against a side who haven’t won this year we didn’t give them anything to shout or be happy about. Nope, if there were moans about that performance I can understand them. It was not good at all.

You must have had a poor stream. The moans and groans were extremely evident on the one I watched. Vinagre seemed to get a lot of the abuse for passing the ball backwards too often. But there was a lot of moaning every time we gave the ball away.

Comes with the territory of being a side chasing for the top 4/5, I guess.

Well I'm afraid you'll have to take my word for it, as I was there and you weren't.

TV doesn't pick up each individual dickhead shouting out dreadful stuff and by God were there plenty of them today.

Now that does sound very entitled! We have just seen a bore draw against a very ordinary team. Can you really blame them for being frustrated?

Yes?

It was very, very poor on the part of a good chunk of the support today. We don't do that, unless it's now "One Pack, unless it happens to be a bit of a shit game then I will call a 20 year old all the cunts under the sun for passing the ball backwards".

We don't just get to rock up and beat anyone, we didn't play very well after the first 10 minutes today, doesn't mean I hurl abuse at our players.

There was a lot of frustration in the stands. A lot of it in my view understandable. It's the first time this season I've thought the mentality was wrong and we thought we just had to turn up - Raul trying to score worldies, Jota taking Freddy shots, Boly doing Cruyff turns in his own box and so on.

The wind made things difficult though and the heavy sighing leading to eventual boos for Vinagre isn't going to help him and therefore the team.

I think you are allowed to be disappointed in that performance whilst still being appreciative of the wider picture.

I am not condoning abuse of our players. Vinagre didn't have a great game offensively. His usual strengths were missing. I am still pissed that only Sheffield united of our rivals have not beaten Brighton on their home patch. Its a really poor 2 points dropped to Brighton, again and no amount of excuses changes that.

City won the league but drew against Huddersfield along the way.

Liverpool will win the league but got thumped against Watford who have been bottom for most of the season.

I don't understand your point. No-one wins every game that they *should* win. Brighton did ok and got their point. We weren't very good and no-one will dispute that. However it doesn't excuse that crap from the stands and those people don't deserve your backing, fuck them. I'd rather play in front of 17k again than have wankers following us.

It's perspective isn't it? If I'd paid 40 quid to see a play and it was dreadful, with the actors forgetting their lines and making an awful hash of everything, then it would be a waste of my time and money. The entertainment level of today's game was non existent and lots of football fans go to matches to be entertained.

However I thought that overall the crowd tried to get behind the team where I was (in the South Bank). There did however seem to be more griping and moaning than usual, I had a John Fury lookalike who I'd never seen before next to me, who had a good constant whinge. He also left 10 minutes before the end of the first half and then again before full time. Plus the old fella in front seemed to think we should hammer them about 10 nil and wasn't happy when we didn't. He then threw a major strop about 10 minutes before full time and left.

I was disappointed with the tempo we played at and made it far too easy for Brighton. It is however not a new thing that we struggle to break down teams with limited ambition. I think after winning at Spurs raised expectations and we just didn't deliver today, but that's football.

No-one spent £40 to get in today unless they got properly ripped off.

There's no guarantee of entertainment on a ticket, at least there wasn't last time I checked. I say you support the team if you're at the game and then gripe about it in the pub/on here/on Twitter/wherever afterwards if you aren't happy.

I did not see that today and that's the most unsatisfactory thing about it all for me. I thought everyone bought into what we've done for nearly three years (go back actually three years and you see teams with Lonners, Batth, Sav, Price, Edwards and Bod all heavily involved) but apparently no. It's all champagne and roses while we're winning. Draw (not lose, not even concede, draw) against a team who came for a point - which is a bit odd, as it doesn't really help them all that much, but it's their season - and everyone is apparently fair game.

Not going to labour the point but essentially people piss me off.

Oh, and manky bastards STILL don't wash their fucking hands after going to the toilet.

I disagree with this opinion that Brighton came and parked the bus, they had loads of possession in our defensive third, we didn't look under any real pressure of course. As for the fans well I wasn't there but I doubt if its only a section of Wolves fans that get a bit entitled when a good team don't deliver what they want

Success raises expectations and entitlement unfortunately, we've always had a support who are quick to turn (the same could be said about most teams) when things aren't going well. Unfortunately not going well for lots of fans, now tends to be not winning every game against opposition they deem inferior.

Getting on your players backs (even if they're a 20 year old kid who's not even played 50 games yet) has never done any team any good, but human nature dictates people will continue to do so regardless. The more successful we get, the more prevalent it's likely to become I'm afraid.

I don't dispute that.

Doesn't stop me getting annoyed about it and I don't have to just accept it, I'll call it out for what it is, same as when you get ridiculously entitled statements on here (to be fair there aren't any in this thread...yet :D )

It felt like we got a few details wrong, tbh. If we go 3 in the middle the WBs absolutely have to get forward to provide the width, so when they weren't doing so it really hamstrung us.

How we managed to take so long to figure out it's not a great idea to lump it in the direction of the 6'9 LB I'm not sure. Burn's got the turning circle of an oil tanker (proven when Donck went clean past him) - someone should've been running at him a lot more.

Quite right - but it's human nature and it's that magic fourth shining on the horizon. Bigger crowds the many relative newcomers and the matchday thread mentality will be there. There is always the bigger picture but any current whinge mentality (when put into context) is badly misplaced - especially given the quality of player you mention that represented us in recent years. I would take tenth position and Nuno signing up rather than fourth and Nuno leaving (if that makes sense). Next year is mammoth for the Wolves.

Dendoncker isn't good enough for the EPL nor is Vinagre.
That said, even with them in the team you would think we should beat Brighton at home.
The term Big Time Charlies comes to mind.

We didn't play well at all today, every player was well under par. The fans? Disgraceful.

Ridiculous statement. Donk and Vinagre are absolutely PL quality players. What a strange comment.

Oh and I totally agree with DW about the crowd today. Far too much entitlement around the place today.

In the Championship/L1/L2 Wolves fans 'always' had a reputation for turning on the team if we were not leading after 20 minutes. I'm guessing the same fickle fans from those days are still going to games now and their feelings that we should convincingly beat every 'small' team have not changed and probably cannot ever change.
There are no small teams in the EPL but perhaps it is a compliment to Nuno and the club that some supporters already see us as so much bigger than the Brightons of this world.

Negativity from some fans is the price of success.

Home draws
Sheffield
Brighton
Burnley
Newcastle
Man Utd
Leicester
Southampton

I would say only Leicester did not thoroughly deserve their point. That is still an issue for us if we really are looking to break into the big 8 or 9 with Leicester and Everton. I don’t see how that cannot be commented on or complained about constructively without being called out as entitled and negative. It is a repeating theme. Brighton predictably did what they do so off we go. A neat two nil win in Greece and this lot is chip paper
