Winter Improvement Thread (aka Winter Squad Weakening Thread and TWF Suicide Watch)

I doubt even he is wrong at this stage.

I would have been happy with Kike, but after that I can only imagine we would have been going for anyone just to appease supporters.

Mason, ALF, Sig, RVLP. It really is not as bad as some would make out - any striker signing would not have made THAT much of a difference anyway. I am looking forward to Bright also hopefully given a go.

Bet the mongs on the Mix are seething about a player not signing whom they likely knew sod all about! :D

It is disappointing this deal has apparently collapsed but sadly many on there predicted this would happen today and again are proven correct. If we've known Afobe was off since the start of the season failing to bring in a replacement striker is poor.
It was amusing seeing some on their struggling with the idea EEL was wanted by another club through.
But really there's no point in critiscing other forums. There's no way you can put a positive spin on our failure to adequately (or even inadequately) replace Afobe.

I agree. The two forums have a different style of showing it but disappointment really should be the order of the day.

anyoone know how much Washington ended up leaving for?

Charlton have signed Rod Fanni. We should've gone for him, an impenetrable defender...

Or don't sell him in the middle of the season.

We have also sold our only first team left back and are planning to cover his departure with a bad right back, an injured centre half who hasn't played in three and a half months (and isn't even back playing for the reserves yet) and a youngster with 0 minutes in the league behind him.

If we are failing to get new signings in the positions we need, due to us not being prepared to pay the asking price or high enough wages. How do you expect Kenny to work miracles? Surely the blame, if there is any, must be with Moxey and the board?

I think the manager views Matt Doherty as an acceptable option at left back. That is his fault, no-one else's.

I don't buy that when KJ has been allowed to spend around £7m on Byrne, Coady & Mason in the space of 2 windows. That makes me much more disappointed than the current inactivity, especially when all of the blame is shifted towards the board by default.

It ISN'T fair enough by that self centred spunktrumpet MacAnthony - I'm sure Moxey will be delighted that he's tweeted it.

But you are saying we are short of players in certain positions and having to play players out of position. So how can you expect a team to play decent football? Isn't this more to do with Moxey and Morgan than Kenny?

Who chose to put our only left back on the bench for a month and then sell him without bringing in a replacement? He wasn't injured, as far as we know he didn't want to leave. He chose to play someone out of position and out of his depth, no-one forced his hand there.

As has been pointed out he has had some money to spend. Again who chose to thunder a load of the budget on a really poor defensive midfielder who can't control the ball? £2m on him.

Honestly, I'm OK that we didn't bring in a new striker. This season's a write-off - wait for the summer and the market to cool down, get some work done, and really make sure we get the best Afobe replacement possible with the money we have from his sale. We should be thinking long-term, and who will play best alongside Dicko and Mason from August, not who can do a job for us for the next six months but then might find themselves struggling to fit into the squad when our best players are back to full fitness.

(There's also the slim chance that we might have a new owner and/or manager come in, in which case the fewer long-term contracts handed out now, the better our prospects for rebuilding the squad over the summer.)

Wage structure has nothing to do with Kenny Jackett. This is likely to be the reason we miss many of our targets.

John Marshall or Kevin Thelwell?

Reported targets.

None of us on this board truly know who the club have and haven't targeted, full stop.
