Winter Improvement Thread (aka Winter Squad Weakening Thread and TWF Suicide Watch)

We haven't dealt with him well. It is downright bizarre how on numerous times he's been seemingly out of the picture then just randomly brought back in (almost as if the manager doesn't know what he's doing). However for all that he played well yesterday - and he did - he has had a ton of opportunities that he just hasn't taken. If you wanted a summary of his Wolves career in a snapshot it isn't yesterday's display, it's toe punting the ball into the side netting vs Cardiff when Zyro was waiting for a tap in six yards out.

The thing is with Graham out, Henry underwhelming every time he plays, Ojo gone, Byrne apparently completely untrusted and Zyro needed elsewhere (not that we know where the manager actually plans to use him long term, he won't say), we shouldn't really be selling him, for all that he leaves me cold 8 times out of 10.

Surely some of that can be coached into him, the basics like pace and skill he has. Knowing when and how to use that should be helped by good coaching?
Do you think Wolves have the coaches capable of such education? I can't remember the last player I saw improve in such fashion whilst at Wolves.

I know, I know. Was just trying to be a bit optimistic.

Actually, Jarvis got much better at this while at Wolves - perhaps we should ask Mick for TC back.

As much as I've slated VLP on here, I'd now be disappointed if he left. Last couple of games he has shown some promise and we literally have no one else at the minute. The thought that James Henry will now become our star winger again is terrifying.

He wasn't really a Key player in L1 but two seasons on at a higher level he will now become that

£1m for a player who is out of contract in 5 months, who we probably wouldn't offer a new one to and if we did almost definitely wouldn't sign it would be a very good deal. If we needed him to help us go/stay up it might be different, but we aren't doing either.

He's under contract for another year yet. The players with first team appearances who are out of contract in the summer are Sigurdarson, Golbourne, McCarey, Boukari, Ismail, Rowe and McAlinden.

Siggy may get a new deal if 1) he stays fit and 2) is actually any good. The others will all leave, further trimming that wage bill.

Boukari! Surely he's back soon!

My mistake, I thought he was out of contract in the Summer...more of a quandary then. A fortnight ago I'd have snapped their hands off, I still think I would, yesterday wasn't typical of the last 18 months.

Maybe he's been knocking on Jacketts door that often that the letters e, n, n. y, j, e, t, t have fell off. That's gotta annoy anybody.

I don't think he really added much to his game, he stopped doing stupid shit in his own box but can't think of anything else he really developed in a Wolves shirt.

Another that I don't think really added much to his game, he just got better at the things he'd always been capable of, which you'd expect really over a few years of solid practise. Added a few more goals under Connor but was always a knock and run winger with questionable delivery.

Was at the Fulham game where he broke again - he ain't coming back for a good while yet.

"He's in every day. He had a consultation with his specialist last Monday, he's also on track.

"It'll be too late for Wolves unfortunately, it'll be the summer and beyond is when he'll be back to match fitness.

"But the consultant is happy he'll be back to a similar level he's been at before his injury and have a good career.

"It's been pretty much five years now of injury after injury.

"We've had players here in the past who've gone from injury to injury and it can sometimes happen like that.

"The original injury he had was a traumatic one, he was pushing away, someone stood on his heel and he's tried to drive away the foot couldn't go on it and the muscles in his cartridge ripped in the long-ways direction.

"That calf has been fine but on the back of that he's had hamstring problems, groin issues and more recently this knee problem on the other side.

"You can't really link them but there's an element of slight bio-mechanical changes which cause other issues."

I'll be honest, I somewhat doubt the third line.

No he hasn't. A couple of good games doesn't change the fact that he's done very little this season and his attitude has been shocking too.

He's looked a better player since his loan spell, but let's not rewrite history.

Whilst I think this is true, if he leaves before we've brought anyone else in, I think the vitriol is more than understandable. Not because of the qualities of VLP, but because we'd have sold a winger stuck up front because we've no strikers before we've bought a replacement striker. That's just taking the piss frankly.

Whilst I'm not demanding to Afobe money is spent in this window (I have said before that I'd write this season off and re-address things in the summer) we do actually need some footballers to play football for our football team.

It'd be sods law if we cut our losses and he goes and gets fit and plays well for someone else next season.

Ah - didn't notice that!

Maybe he just needs to get away from this football club :icon_lol:

His career is over - a shame for the guy as he seemed to have promise but we will never know about that.
