West Ham 2-1 Wolves: Verdict Thread

The one thing I didn’t want was a tight defeat with VAR controversial decisions.
That’s what we got, the media and some of our fans are tapping into the hard luck stuff and at the same time shifting all responsibility onto the owners, yes they’re to blame for employing GON 10 games to long.

I did not say anything about the manager actually. I am just stating a view on the game of football I just watched. You & many others on this forum just want GON gone. Fair enough but you cannot hold him responsible for awful officiating.

You literally said 'we only lost because of useless officials'; that's what I take issue with, and I've already explained why

Can't say I've got a single bad thing to say about Lemina's antics at full time.

It can't be overstated that what's being seen as cowardice and lack of discipline starts at the top. We've seen many of these players, including/especially Mario, give absolutely everything in the service of a fucking moron, and they'll certainly be aware that any reasonable club would have sacked O'Neil weeks ago.

If you can't see a light at the end of the tunnel, you try to make one yourself.

I wish he had put his crown through Derry's stupid fucking face.

Just looked, the only players really he's lost from his squad is Nunes (shit, and somehow made a profit), Kilman (had to take that offer) and Neto. His £200m figure is extremely fanciful. The biggest issue is not replacing Kilman, it wasn't that we sold him

His behaviour was embarrassing. Appalling choice to be captain. Has completely messed up his game as well as being played in so many different positions.

This feels totally revisionist to me.

Gary's broken him, simple as, IMV.

Yup. Biggest #HeadsGone since Fletcher. Sack him off with Hwang in January, he's becoming a liability.

It’s really poor man management by GON and his staff, was pretty clear early on that Lemina wasn’t dealing with the responsibility well.
His drop off in form is one of the worst I’ve ever seen between seasons.

A good coach can sort him out quite quickly I think

Hindsight but definitely not revisionist.

He’s too emotional to be this team's leader
Maybe. For me, I'm happy to see someone look like they're actually pissed off at how shit we are. Is that the healthiest way to go about it? No. But IMO it's a damn sight better than the apathetic bullshit we've been putting up with for the last 5 months.

At least he seems to give a damn that we fucking suck.

That’s fine. That person can’t be the captain though.

I really don't care about crappy little sideshows like this. It's football, not Eastenders.

I do care about us repeatedly leaving men totally unmarked at the back post off set pieces.

It’s not even like we weren’t warned either. Astonishing really.

Maybe, maybe not.

Perhaps there's a greater gap between "revisionist" and "hindsight" in your mind than mine (which is totally fine, that's not meant as a poke). Either way, you'd imagine that if we get someone competent to coach this group (a big ask, granted), the captaincy will change hands (arms?).

I can't think of anyone who fits the British ideal in our squad, though.

I don’t understand how it can be revisionist. He is quite clearly not the right choice to be captain.
I simply think this overlooks the impact of our dire run, with a totally rudderless manager, on the mentality of the players.

If someone (maybe even you!) thought he was a bad choice at the time, fair enough.

Perhaps my point is this: I don't think Lemina being captain has had any significant impact one way or the other, as I generally think the perceived importance placed on it is wildly overstated. That's not a new stance for me.

Just read the match reports and watched the video of the nonsense between Lemina and Derry. We are an absolute rabble atm. We desperately need a coach with strong character and a modicum of tactical nous, I think it's probably already too late.

We were trying to mark him, he was Lemina's man, once again though Mario got blocked off, which in itself is shit.

Then Johnstone's non effort to save it...

It does highlight a complete lack of discipline at the club if players are behaving like that. Lemina is not a captain then again I’m not sure who is able to do it at the club.
Just another nail in the coffin of all things recruitment in the space of 3 years we’ve gone from one of the best club captains in years to not having one ideal candidate in the squad.
