West Ham 2-1 Wolves: Verdict Thread

We’ve had 6 tight VAR calls this season which could’ve gone either way 3 have gone our way 3 against us I’m not having it as reasonable excuse.

If you're buying into constant hard luck stories to explain away how poor the manager is, you're only fooling yourself
I did not say anything about the manager actually. I am just stating a view on the game of football I just watched. You & many others on this forum just want GON gone. Fair enough but you cannot hold him responsible for awful officiating.

Emerson had to get sent off as well for the barge on Guedes for a second yellow. With competent officiating we get at least a point, that's not a bold take.

He obviously still has to go, and I can't believe the way he was talking after the game. He certainly doesn't think he's going.

Excuse for what. It is just a statement of fact that the decisions went against us tonight.

If we can find a better manager fair enough.

Penalty call number 1 we score within a minute anyway, penalty call 2 we’d have levelled if Doyle had any kind of composure 3 seconds later.
Doc was extremely fortunate not be on a yellow card much earlier than he was also.

We had three go against us tonight, ffs 😂

Or are you saying we’ve not had any other VAR calls go against us over the course of this season? Because I can tell you right now that’s bullshit.

We’re shite. Gaz will be sacked and is a poor manager, becoming more unlikeable by the week. Lemina is an over-emotional wreck of a captain. Many of the players are underperforming. Fosun are twats and Matt Hobbs/Jeff Shi are stealing a living and need firing in to the sun.

All the above is true. We also had some shit VAR calls tonight. No one is trying to cover up the incompetence of O’Neil & the job he’s done by saying that.

I hope that’s explained it clearly. Off to bed.

Todibo was just calming him down talking to him. Him and Bellegarde, all French speakers. If he was causing issues then other players would have been pulling them apart. He even tried to fight Derry when he calmed him down so Todibo actually did well…
I think Todibo did a brilliant job with Mario, staying with him, talking to him, keeping him as calm as possible, trying to usher him away from everyone else, and by doing so sending a message to the other West Ham players to keep out of things.

I haven't watched it back but when Sky showed a replay of the initial incident at Full Time it looked as though Bowen offered to shake hands and Mario for whatever reason (you couldn't see) ignored him.

Bowen then mouthed off at him, causing Mario to turn and face him and it was Bowen who then raised his hands first, shoved Mario in the chest and instigated the whole thing. It looked (and again I haven't had chance to check) as though Bowen got away completely and Mario was booked. It seemed as though his reaction was to the injustice of how that situation played out.

I thought on the whole Mario had a good game. Countless times he got into good positions and slowed West Ham down. He tackled well and worked hard throughout.

Was it embarasing at the end? Maybe but I'd rather see that reaction to losing than seeing someone laughing and joking with the opposition.

The irony is, on the previous 9 corners they'd done very little. Despite SJ not coming for a single one.

Then they block off his marker and it's a free header and the keeper is in no man's land.
And Johnstone doesn't even attempt to jump or even put his hands in the air. I get it loops over him, but he just stands there and watches it happen.

In isolation, it was an OK performance. Except it wasn’t in isolation, all the same weaknesses on display. Cunha is either trying to do too much or isn’t doing enough. Nice goal, but how have we ended up with Doherty playing a weird hybrid role in the Premier League? Andre, so anonymous I didn’t realise he had been substituted. Guedes, a technical adept player who is generally shit with a weird running style. Neither Toti or Beuno are Premier League players.

It doesn’t look like we have a high quality replacement manager waiting for an offer and there’s nobody on the coaching staff you’d want in charge.

You’ll be doing a hell of a job to find a worse one. Despite what Sky and Jamie Carragher might ‘think’.
I understand that is the majority view on this forum. Personally I think the results have been consistently too bad for too long but he has hardly been helped by the selling of good players. It is a mess.

read the word “tight” dear me, we had one go our way tonight if you include every VAR call tonight.
It’s just blatantly wrong to suggest VAR has screwed us over again this season because it hasn’t, tonight maybe but it probably only buys us 1 point which won’t make any difference. The tight calls that we’ve benefited from Palace at home, Saints x2 and Everton last week so that’s 4 in fact. Against us City at Home and 2 penalty calls tonight.

Terrible game of football. One team managed to be worse than the other just about. Wasn’t a surprise at all the way we conceded right after equalising.

He’s so out of his depth it’s embarrassing. He can’t even pick the right person to be captain ffs.

Highlight was meeting Banjo

I don’t think anyone is doing this?

I’ve literally said in my earlier post - he’s shit, he deserves the sack. But in respect to tonight, the VAR decisions (or lack of) were a joke. To have one go against you is fair enough - but three? And all massive moments.

As EP said, we can be shit, the manager can be useless and we can still agree we’ve been on the end of some shite decisions tonight. Not sure why some are kicking back at that.

It was addressed to Beaver.

Shit VAR/ref decisions or not, West Ham would undoubtedly have found a way to beat us regardless, just like pretty much every other team in the league. It's an ingrained pattern of defeat by now.

All the decisions in the world in our favour won't compensate for that. We'd just have lost 5-4.

Well it strikes me as an informed forum with a thoughtful bunch of contributors who tend to not trot out the prevailing views of the rest of the fanbase. So I’m pleased to be amongst the majority here.

The wider majority can be found getting plenty of airtime on various podcasts and channels. VAR this, poor old Gaz that. Turns out they were wrong and now we’re fcked.

Brighton, Bournemouth, Brentford, they've all lost key players at regular intervals.

They're all also in the top half of the league because they have employed better managers than Bruno Lage and Gary O'Neil.
