Welcome to Wolves Rafa Mir

Not really sure it’s a way around FFP. Players would have promotion bonuses anyway and any player you want to keep who is underpaid you’d need to give a new contract too anyway if you got promoted.

Depends if it was paid after the 31st May.

When Leo signed we still had Dicko so number 9 wasn't available. You can't change your number mid season so it's not some kind of snub, so nothing to this.

Surely it has to be. Will be paid at end of season so 1st of June. I’d say that’s more just standard procedure and coincidentally falls after the cut off more than a planned strategy to avoid FFP.

We are not in any FPP risk even if we didn’t get promoted. We have a lot of players who would command sufficient transfer fees to negate any risk.

Wages 10K a week plus £2m bonus on the 01/06.

or

Wages 40k a week plus £0.5m bonus on 01/06.

The first would be a planned strategy around FFP.

Indeed, but that doesn't mean you can't plan for various eventualities.

Alan, wanting the number 9 shirt is nothing to do with "superstition". Rather, it is indicative for being though of as the number one striker at a club. Certainly in England anyway.

I think there are limits to how much you can increase your wage budget by per season, maybe a way around that

I assumed you meant wage increases as opposed to cash bonuses.

You’d say it’s a gamble for a player to take the non guaranteed bonus. But I guess with our mate Mendes around it’s all a bit different as they have “the guarantee” that if things don’t go to plan then they can get shipped off somewhere else.

We have signed a kid with no real first team experience. I see this signing as one for the future, to develop slowly.

I think its already been stated that he's not one for the future, he's one for the here and now and we absolutely would not give the number 9 shirt to a one for the future. I am fully expecting him to play some part against Swansea on Saturday.

When we signed Vinagre he was put as one for the future with the plans to become a 1st teamer after settling in and he had no squad number. A few days later he got one as he played in the League CUp v Yeovil

We will see how big a part he plays. His videos are him playing agin kids. The step up for him is going to be huge. Real Madrid may have wanted him but not for their first team, he was being signed for Castilla.
I reckon we will see little of him over the next half of this season IMO.

No, I meant bonuses.

That's not strictly true.

Whilst he may have only been playing for Valencia Mestalla this season they're competing in a senior league unlike reserve teams over here, quick look at the Segunda B table and there only seems to be 3 'B teams' in there this season including Valencia's so a vast majority of Mir's games this season will have been against senior opposition, just a lower standard.

I have no idea how good he is. Doubt we’d sign him if he’s terrible and he’s only 20. Not sure we can go off his record though as Segunda B is a terrible standard.

Is the standard any worse than the Saudi League??

100%. Saudi league actually has genuine professional footballers in it who have played at decent levels and moved for big fees (Bonatini for example).

He also played for Valencia's first team in a couple of Europa League games and a Champions League game against Zenit too. Not dead rubbers either.

He's 20. Not a kid. If he gets into good positions he will get the ball from players who have the ability to play him in. If he's any good he'll score goals. No problem.
