Welcome to Wolves Leander Dendoncker

Hey, guys. I'm from Belgium. And will give you my honest opinion about LDD.

Dendoncker can be a great buy or can be a complete miss. But for 13,3M it's an easy buy imo.

As a CDM he is incredibly talented. When he came up at that position in Anderlecht, it was one of the best young CDM's I had seen in my life. In the youth teams, he was never the biggest talent. That's why he worked hard to get at an extremely good level for a 19 year old. But Anderlecht is bad at managing young players, so his mentality went downhill once he was considered as one of the stars.

On top of that, people were trying to make him a CB. And he absolutely lacks the qualities to play decent at that position. He only has the right height for that, that's all. If the management succeeds in changing his mentality and plays him at CDM. 13,3M is absolutely ridiculous because he will go to a 60M worth in no time. If they can't handle him right and play him at the CB, he will fail big time.

Good luck with him guys!

Thanks for the info.

Thanks, however I think he's been signed as a right sided centre half, the position he played for Belgium versus England in the World Cup. He won't play centre midfield for us, unless our first choice 2 are shown to be too lightweight

Thanks for the input. As has been said it looks like Dendoncker has been signed to play on the right side of the back three for now, Nuno already has form for turning a less than average central midfielder into a ball playing sweeper so you never know. Dendoncker certainly looks like he's got all the attributes to make it there and under Nuno's tutelage hopefully it will work. Fell free to stick around and chat about his progression mate.

I agree in that I'd much rather see him in midfield, but I'd rather see him as a CB than Saiss. I'd also rather him be with wolves than anyone else!

I'm hopeful that he'll eventually be alongside Neves, either in games where Moutinho is out or when moutinho moves on, by which point we will hopefully have better defensive coverage. Though I'm not sure what the chances are of the backline being frequently tinkered with to make that happen.

I agree he looks a perfect foil for Neves, hopefully for years to come.

Hey guys. I'm glad to see that your coach has discovered that he is much better as a CDM. And to hear that he is training hard and playing great again, like at the beginning in Anderlecht. For £12M, you did an absolute ridiculous bargain as it turns out now. Good luck with him in the second season half

Now Roberto Martinez still has to discover that he is much better in midfield

To be fair he played really well at CB against Man City.

But yes I agree his best position is undoubtedly CDM. You could tell that just from his YouTube video when he signed.

On Saturday he put in a great Box-to-box performance and his workrate was exceptional, almost on Moutinho's level.

His quality on the ball will get better and it's already good now.

I think in Dendoncker/Moutinho/Neves we have a midfield to rival almost any team in the division...

I agree. That needs to be the starting three from here on in.

Early days, I know - but I compared Dendoncker to Dier in the matchday thread - but I think he's a better version of Eric Dier and he's been playing for a top 4 side for the last 5 years.

Moutinho still amazes me. Such a clever player and now that we have the pleasure of seeing him play week in week out, I'm happy to admit that he works so much harder than I ever gave him credit for before he joined. He leaves it all on the pitch and his experience will be invaluable for Neves/Donk on and off the pitch too.

It's his tackling that amazes me the most. He seems to make tackles and wins the ball from positions that he has no right to do.

He 's one of those players that seems to have so much time on the ball. Never hurried, always seems to make the right decision.

I'm more impressed that he gives away a lot of niggly fouls each game and rarely gets a card or even the ref having a word with him

I've noticed he commits a lot of cynical fouls without actually putting his foot in which I think is how he gets away with it.

He is an immaculate gamesman.

It's the perfect midfield three for us in 3-5-2. Donck frees Neves to do his schizzle, and there is the extra man to combat the midfield swamping that was causing us problems earlier in the season.

Exactly this. I hope we stick with it going forward. Donck does the simple stuff really well.
