I think the issue with Semedo is, people just remember the one cock up, because usually it leads to us conceding or giving up a very good chance. So he can play well for 95% of the match but then the 5% where he does something stupid which costs us goals/points is the bit people remember. Understandably, I guess. But I would say he has definitely improved as the season has progressed.
Most touches, and high numbers of interceptions and tackles are not good indicators of good full back play, his numbers in that regard are high through a combination of teams targeting him and sometimes leaving him isolated.
I think Semedo has improved over the season but , like RAN he is an attacking full back first , a defensive full back second. That's fine if we are a side that create a lot of good chances for good striker's to finish. We are not creating the amount of penalty box chances needed to allow for our defensive deficiencies, such as lack over pace in the centre. Again, it sounds very Keeganesque , but if we are going to play a game where we are trying to outscore teams we will need to create more good chances and take them.Maybe in a wider sense that could be true, but Semedo's touches for us aren't a sign of weakness, it's a sign he is a dynamic player who moves up and down the field, contributes to all phases of the game, and is left in isolation even in a back 3 more than any other player.
His touches are high because of high involvement. Which shows some of our faults and like of control this season.

Doherty was shite. He offered absolutely nothing in general play and couldn't defend.I think Semedos touches show the different role he has to Doc. For me, he's almost an extra midfielder / someone you can give the ball to if your underpressure and be pretty sure we'll keep possession
Doherty was a threat going forward, that's what he offered.Doherty was shite. He offered absolutely nothing in general play and couldn't defend.
Watch Spurs offer him back to us for free (well, writing off what they owe) and we say no.
This really has got silly, 15 goals in 95 games over his 2 seasons whilst we were in the top flight. It's disingenuous to claim his goalscoring record wasn't good considering his position. Not sure what this threat was as he never topped four league goals in a season and couldn't cross a fucking road.
The luckiest man in football, seriously. League of Ireland ability and ended up at Spurs.
I wish I had his hair..This has been done to death, let's change the subject.
What do people think about Traore?
I'm a little confused, are we blaming Semedo for the goal? He was marking a man and couldn't shift out wide until the whole defence shifted across.
For me we should be asking questions such as:
Where was Otasowie?
Should Donck have slotted in to cover for Otasowie/Semedo
Why did Saiss do a weird stop start run, lose his man and totally miss the ball?
