Watford v Wolves (A) - 01/01/20 Buildup and Matchday thread...

Move on, one of those days. The issues were obvious and the subs fixed them. Highlight was Neto and Traore. Might not be a bad idea to rest Jiminez for the next game and start Cutrone. Otherwise as close to full strength please.

Couldn't watch today, but the result is disapointing. Seems we played badly, but that's to be expected tbh, after both the City and Liverpool games, we would look and be tired.

I would guess so many games are catching up with us a bit. It takes something to spark us into life

That said, how much did not having Donck at RCB affect doc.

Maybe Nuno should have played the usual team rather than bringing in Bennett, although that was presumably to counter Deeney.

A week off now to have a good rest before we take man United apart

I don’t think we were terrible today, just really sloppy at times and a little tired. Errors from those that played and Nuno’s team selection/subs cost us imo. It’s really fine margins at the best of times at this level but this season it definitely is. Neves should be playing at the moment and Moutinho getting the rest when he can as he’s the one in form and Neto definitely should not have come off. If Cutrone isn’t trusted we need another striker asap because games like today we need another option to Raul when it’s pretty obvious he’s not quite at it.

Isnt the united match in 3 days?

We looked tired. Because we are. We've played more games than any of our opponents and this was the third quick-fire fixture after playing the champions and the champions elect. Watford employed the kind of tactics teams do when you're in a relegation fight, we weren't at our best and we didn't get too much luck. Gifting Watford a very sloppy first half goal changed the whole complexion of the game. 0-0 at Half time with Ruben Neves about to come on and Watford would have been in trouble. Bad day, not without positives. Neto looked good and deserved his goal, Traore terrified another defence, but we were overall lackluster. Put it to bed and move on.

Much kudos to the referee to decide that Neto had dived and dished out a yellow immediately.
Funny how Salah & Mane went down 4 times between them last match and not one card.
The consistency if you think the player has cheated is fantastic.
Bytheway i thought Neto should have had a penalty.

Frustrating, poor first half, a gift of a first goal, they got lucky with their second. Thought when Neto scored we would at least get a point but after the red card I don't remember us creating a clear cut chance which is disappointing considering they were often doubling up on Traore.
Raul not at best today. Not sure why Neves doesn't take at least some of the free kicks in goal scoring positions. We are a bit inconsistant still but we're getting there.

One thing that's bugged the fuck out of me is Moutinho getting the free kicks today and after Edersens red card, I don't understand it.

For all the good he brings he doesn't score goals and I didn't feel with either he'd get close to scoring either. Neves has played second fiddle to Joao's brilliance but Neves has him on shooting and set pieces.

It's like Neves taking penalties when it's patently obvious Jimenez is the better taker.

Great post.

A lot of fans are over reacting to this result and performance (not necessarily on here).

The only training I'd do between now and United game is shooting practise. We'd have got something out of the last two games if our shooting had been better. Absolutely no excuse for shooting wide of the near post and if in doubt hit it across the keeper so there is a chance of a rebound.

Had we lost the first two and then won this I don't think we would be unhappy. Getting through this past 6 days relatively unscathed is a bonus.

It is a very frustrating result because we could and should have won. Some bad luck and bad individual errors. Think most days Raul puts that away, as does Doc in the first half.

I think it's time to bin one of the xmas games. Either the one before or the one midway depending on how the days fall. Teams get a home game on either BD or NYD. This year would be the one in between, if Boxing Day was a Monday for instance get rid of the one on the previous Saturday, but a round in on the Thursday/Friday and play again on NYD. Teams putting out weakened teams or flagging players devalues the competition

Something that has started to get on my tits lately, we whinge a bit when Jota and Neto go down easily ( plus others of course) but Traore nearly always tries to stay on his feet when tripped/nudged etc, then when he's off balance gives it away or miscontrols it, but it never gets bought back for the original foul, surely that encourages diving and going down easily
