Vitor sacked

He's one of our own, he's one of our ownnnnnnn. Rob Edwards he's one of our own...

Although he isn't but The Southbank will sing it anyway.

Personally I think it is pointless appointing anyone as a permanent manager. It should be a contract until the end of the season. With a review after that. Obviously this further limits the number of candidates who might be interested. It needs to be someone who is a good man manager, tactician and has coached at a top level managing and massaging egos. Someone who is currently unemployed and who likes a challenge.
Southgate fits the bill.
Won't happen obviously.

What kind of football does he play?

Boro fans seem pretty happy if he is to go, football awful, depressing, turgid stuff! Lack of goals and attacking threat, celebrating shots as if they were goals.
He's got them to third they acknowledge but football has been terrible. They are looking forward to getting a coach to build on the start they've made.

Quick search on boro forum wanting q new manager and better football

It’s because 3rd after 14 games is meaningless compared to the torrid footy being served up week after week that sees shots on target celebrated like goals and £20m spent on attacking plers being *** up the wall because the system makes them all look sh1te

We’re 3rd cos we kept it tight with our back 5 (Callum Brittain and Matt Targett as wing backs btw) and fluked some goals which have now dried up as xP-ected and we’re no longer tight at the back

PS - our manager actively wants another job otherwise they wouldn’t be making an approach

Get gone and let’s enjoy watching our team again!

He's also inherited a decent Boro side who may well have had a decent chance of going up under Carrick last season until they sold their best player (Latte Lath) in January.

In fairness he recognised the squad he had at Luton and changed from his preferred style/formation to what the players were used to. Got them promoted but then had no resources to bring in the type of players he wanted for the premier league

So Nathan Jones’s side/formation was promoted ?

Basically yes. He wanted to change the whole playing style to a less route one strategu but recognised that he did not have the players. Can’t stand Jones but Charlton are the best placed of the promoted teams fr league one so far

Funny, I was working with three Boro season ticket holders yesterday and they weren't happy about Wolves taking him.

Created a good link with the fans and the football is fine but lacking a bit of cutting edge.

On the basis that very few other decent Managers will come to us , then we are left with a pick of a lower quality / untested group........therefore on that basis Edwards is no worse than whoever else might be considered - given the resources that we have and the league position we find ourselves in .

For instance - I'd be more interested in Mark Robins than Edwards if we were to go shopping in the Championship , but Robins will not leave Stoke given where he has them now .

Edwards appointment wouldn't inspire anyone - but please show me a better alternative right now.......who will agree to come ( that's the key measure - no point mentioning anyone who is not interested ) .

I have no idea who is interested and logic suggests no one good should be.

Joking aside, does anyone know a genuinely good manager who might plausibly be persuaded and be appointable?

I think it just adds to the doom that no one really does. As in, people who know a lot more about football than someone like me. Even they think we're fucked either way.

You mean the earlier posted comments re; Edwards may have been lifted from a fan forum where their opinions are a bit OTT & extreme and not a fair reflection of the job he’s doing at ‘boro?! I don’t believe it… 😉

Rob Edwards will 100% be a case of Matt Wild & Matt Jackson getting in Shi’s ear and saying “you need to get the fans back on side. We need someone they know who they’ll get behind and it will take the attention away from you”. They’re literally the last two people left at the club with any sort of sway, although we all know Shi will do as he pleases regardless.

Edwards is a Championship manager being lined up to take over at a club who will be playing Championship football next season. We get a bit of an “feel good” factor because it’s an ex-player who’s well liked by most taking over rather than a Portuguese journeyman plucked from the arse end of nowhere. But anyone who thinks the likes of Andre & JSL are all of a sudden going to start turning in 10/10 performances week after week under Edwards are kidding themselves. With him in charge (and this isn’t because I dislike him at all, quite the opposite actually) I don’t see us winning 5 games this season.

My Mrs fancies him, though, so there is that.

This thinking plays straight into Jeff's hands.

Shall we have the same approach to players then, and shrug our shoulders at how we've filled our squad with shit over the summer?

It's Jeff that's created this scenario where we're seen as an unambitious, penny-pinching circus, it's not the natural way of things for an 8th season PL club that actually has no financial issues

If Shi is appointing a Championship manager, then he clearly has absolutely no fear of getting sacked if we go down.

This is the biggest take from this for me, if he was in any fear of his job he'd roll the dice and throw some cash at a bigger/better name to try and get us out the shit and save his own job.

That makes perfect sense. But he’s persisted with or tried to appoint worse Championship level managers before, so I just can’t assume the logical correlation is actually true.
