UEFA Nations League & Euro 2020 Qualification

Mings, Mount, Rice, Lingard and Winks have no business being in an England squad.

Mount has started the season well but it's a pretty small sample size (since when Southgate spoke about Coady a couple of years ago he said he needed to be playing in the Premier League.) Same goes for Mings. Rice, Lingard and Winks have no business in there at all.

Winks and Lingard should be nowhere near the squad. Just don’t get what people see in Winks.
If I was Coady I’d start researching Irish, Welsh or Scottish ancestors he’s never going to get a shout by Southgate while we’re are playing a back 3.

Winks and Rice are there because we genuinely have nothing else to play at the base of a midfield three.

Lingard is a joke pick.

Mings. Fucking Mings. There are a lot of names there that shouldn’t be but fucking Mings? What the fuck has he done to deserve that? Absolutely fuck all. That’s the last dregs of my interest in England games gone, I’d rather watch Tipping Point than that shit.

The absolute state of our options in midfield.

Unsure what Ox has done to deserve a recall, been broken for months and looked very poor/rusty against Chelsea

Chris Powell has now been appointed to Southgates coaching staff, hmmm.

That has to be up there with one of the worst england squads in the last 30 years

Not even remotely close.

Possibly the worst midfield for many many years. Central defence is a bit shit too.

------------------James--------------
Neville---Terry---Ferdinand---Cole
Beckham-Lampard-Gerrard-Cole
-------------Owen------Rooney-----

Or variations of didn't get beyond the 1/4 final of a major tournament. Most of these are a year off a World Cup Semi.

Apart from kane, sterling & gks, everyone else is too young & inexperienced, too inconsistent or past their best for international games. TAA could be the only other exception since he has the raw talent for the lack of experience

Edit- on paper atleast, but you cant deny the great rosters of the past massively underperformed. Just because they didnt achieve anything doesnt mean they didnt have top individual talent.

Go and have a look at Graham Taylor's England squads (well within 30 years) and come back to me.

Or indeed our starting XI at Euro 2000 which had a left hand side of Phil Neville and Dennis Wise.

England has had a problem with left mid and left backs for ages, until modern times, I still remember people lamenting that harry kewell should have chosen england instead of australia. Still a much stronger squad

Carlton..CARLTON

Which was a much stronger squad? Euro 2000?

Not a hope. We were bloody awful.

The likes of Gerrard and Barry who were in (and hardly played) would fall into your own 'too young and inexperienced' bracket back then.

Oh and for about a decade we had arguably the best left back in the world, wasn't even very long ago either :icon_lol:

Yes, Ashley Cole. Won everything in club football (won the PL with two clubs, pretty rare in itself). Ronaldo never got the better of him when he played wide. In the team of the tournament at Euro 2004. In the UEFA team of the year twice. 100+ caps.

Who was consistently better than him between say, 2004 and 2013?

Maybe im biased I really dont rate/like most of the current nationals apart from taa.. ive always disliked henderson, milner, barkley, macguire, lingaard... too many ok only players like wilson, too many wtf like gibson and mings

Milner hasn't played for us since 2016...

Lots of countries pick fringe players in squads who get either no caps or very few caps. Robert Huth played quite a bit for Germany for a time, I wouldn't have him down as an international great.
