UEFA Nations League & Euro 2020 Qualification

I'd say we've all celebrated a goal at some point that has then been ruled out (linesman's flag or whatever). Do you then at that point go "oh its been disallowed, that's football ruined for me" and walk out the stadium? People will celebrate when a goal goes in either way, the England fans went mental when we scored here. Just as they did when Lingard scored on Thursday, it won't change the joy of a goal going in. You just might have to get disappointed a few minutes later, just like when that linesman's flag went up.

It was a foul so no complaints from me. If England had conceded a goal but there was a foul in the build-up I would be very annoyed.

A more important question than VAR is why does this game exist? It's pointless. This tournament is hardly presitigous enough to warrant a 3rd place playoff, some teams find it hard to give a toss about 3rd even at a World Cup.

I would happily have VAR for red card vs yellow card checks. Checking penalty appeals to eliminate the trailing leg initiating contact and diving also. Marginal offsides or offences in build up to goals it can fuck off.

Fans moan plenty of times that someone fouled one of our players in the build up to a goal. Now that would get overturned and everyone will be giving the away fans the bird. They won't be moaning then.

In other news, if we lose this match on penalties we'll only have ourselves to blame. Numerous clear opportunities wasted.

No such thing as a marginal offside, he either is or he isn't. You can't say 'well he was only slightly off, we'll let that one go'. Where do you draw that line?

Because it is taking up an International window to play. As the 4 Nations in the semi final have no clue as to whether the will get to the final or not they cannot arrange a Friendly or a qualifier with a couple of days notice. So it makes sense to have, even if it is essentially a crap friendly the Nations League is there to replace. Don't play it and both nations lose out on revenue they would normally get

But equally those decisions will go against us in pretty much equal measure. Leave it as it is. It's a rancid idea that utterly destroys the flow of the game. Sure, I am a gnarly old traditionalist I guess, but I really do not like this idea, and I hate the implementation even more. It is rushed in with not even an iota of thought for those who have paid to get into the ground rather than have paid for their subscription from their armchair. It takes too fucking long. There is no definition of clear and obvious error which is the fucking basic starting point for whether the discussion of a decision should even begin. I could go on.

One thing I would like if we have to have this infernal shit show is the idea from rugby, where the referee directs the VAR to check, and says "any reason why I can't give that try". He then still has control.

I wonder if Pickford can do a Pressman here............Scores but not quite as good as old KP

They definitely need to fine tune the process, think there's still too much emphasis on the on pitch ref being involved which slows it down more than anything and obviously keeping the fans informed either on screens or with audio rather than just watching the ref hold his ear piece.

Think they need to let VAR override the on pitch ref, not have a word in his ear and ask him to wander off to look at a screen. All the goal reviews would be almost instantaneous that way, just let them review it independently and give the ref a shout if it needs chalking off. Other black and white incidents like corners, goal kicks, throws and offsides could easily be the same, some bloke watching the screen can decide himself in seconds with the replays and there's no interpretation involved.

The more complex things might work better with the ref on the pitch initiating the assistance though. For example, he sees a big challenge between two players and blows for the freekick, often these days the margins between red and yellow can be very fine so be helpful for him to review it rather than make a guess either way.

Top shoot out and a great save from Pickers to win it

Ridiculous. He was superb on Wednesday.

Obviously want a more defensive/physical spine with Danilo coming in for him.

Was Danilo injured for the last game? Or suspended?

Dumfries with another Zubar masterclass tonight. So shit.

Guedes offering nothing again.
