Trump

Just a question, why didn't you or anyone else not mention the result wasn't binding, till several months after the referendum? Just a point, but why wasn't it mentioned before?

It was mentioned in parliament. When they were enacting the legislation. And I mention it today because it is relevant to the decision made by the Supreme Court.

Yes but you said you voted in the referendum knowing it, why didn't you mention it before or when remain lost the referendum?

All I get from reading the referendum thread is what a tragedy it was and the UK would be doomed. I never read anything about the vote not being binding. Which remain voters went in to the referendum believing it was in or out! The same as leave voters.

Do we need this on the Trump thread too?

This is your opinion. And it is nonsense, for the following reasons;
A) Not all people who are opposed to abortion on demand are religious.
B) If the religions you refer to were 'crackpot' they would by definition be minorities and therefore it wouldn't matter to either party if they offended them.
There is a serious ethical question over life and death and the sanctity of it.
Just because someone doesn't hold the same view as you do on such an emotive subject you can't simply label them all as crackpots.
There are doctors, lawyers and politicians opposed to abortion are they all crackpots as well?

I think you need to reread my post as you haven't understood a word of it and clearly do not understand America if you think what you have written is correct.

Both political parties appeal to voters of all types but the big 'don't' is don't offend religious sensibilities and as a large part of the abortion debate is framed around religion it would be sensible for any party in power to pander to religious types as they hold so much power in certain communities.

As an aside if I have offended your religion I really couldn't give a fuck as all religions are crackpot to me and I say this as a lapsed Catholic.

I'll get an answer from Johnny as to whether the doctors, lawyers and politicians are all crackpots sooner or later.

I don't believe I said they were did I, or are you just making shit up again arkwum? Fairly difficult to get one sentence wrong but you managed it. Ta fucking da.

Yeah, there is good cause why Blair only really dialled up on the Catholicism once he left office. Religion does not play well in modern British politics. Although May is a devout Christian and will probably try her best to shoehorn it in where possible, moralising harridan and 1950s throwback that she is.

I don't think you'll see an openly atheist US President any time soon. Trump is no Christian, but he can't play that angle.

In The God Delusion Richard Dawkins observed there is more chance of an openly gay person getting elected as President than an atheist. Nothing has changed.

A woman's right for abortion has not been removed by the state, Paddy. If they want an abortion, it has not been made illegal, just the state aren't going to fund it.

You are somewhat incorrect. They are not going to fund the charities which include advice on abortion, but also include advice on pregnancy prevention e.g. concraception. People who aren't educated about contraception get unwanted pregancies and have backstreet abortions as a result, how can anyone possibly be served by this?

There are many in the Republican party who oppose abortion in all events, including rape, incest and endangerment to life of the woman - this is a slipperly slope the US is now on, the "pro-life" (until you're born that is) will be smelling blood

As an aside if I have offended your religion I really couldn't give a $#@! as all religions are crackpot to me and I say this as a lapsed Catholic.

Haven't offended my religion as I haven't got one.

Who the fuck are you to decide whose crackpot and who isn't anyway. Fairly full of yourself as usual.

Maybe you didn't read my post right again. I think all religions are crackpot, I didn't say anything about people or indeed professions. You seem to have those things conflicting for some reason.

My opinion and that's what all fora are about aren't they?

For somebody who doesn't have a religion you're getting all bent out of shape about somebody else's opinion about them aren't you?

You could of course debate the point I made rather than attacking me again.

Just say all religions then. No need for crackpot. That's just your take on them.

If you drew a Venn diagram of the American pro life lobby and pro guns / right to bear arms crowd, I wonder if there would be anything on the outside of the central crossover?

I'll say what I like thanks. If I want to call all religions crackpot I will, I believe that's my prerogative.

Now Don's restarting the building of oil pipelines that Obumma stopped. He's having the nerve to do it with US steel as well. The watermelons aren't going to like it.
