Trump

Economic protectionism is all about putting the concerns of a small group (in this case US car makers) above those of everyone else.

That is exactly what the EU do, join our club or you will pay higher tarrifs.
The USA giant companies wanted the best of both worlds, cheap labour and no or low taxes. Our heavy industry has disappeared because of that same process. You can't claim to support the left and continuously support the multinationals over the workers. Whole ares of the USA and the north of England have been decimated through big industrial companies turning their back on the people who made them rich, going to other countries with cheaper labour and having the EU protect the multinationals on paying very low taxes. Win win for the multinationals, while the people who worked for those companies are left on the scrapheap.

What in her speech did you disagree with? Do you think the presidential candidate should be mocking the disabled? Do you not think the role of a free press is to hold power to account?

No, I think she should stick to acting. Sick of hearing the rich actors and actresses, telling us they know better than the electorate.
They have been very fortunate in life, give to the poor great. Is her opinion worth any more than yours or mine?

That's kind of the point of opinion pieces though isn't it, be they spoken or written.

For instance I don't think my opinion is "worth" more than anyone on here regarding Wolves but I like to think people are interested in reading my blogs, whether they agree with them or not.

What's your income threshold and/or occupation list for the people who are allowed to express an opinion? You don't seem to have a problem with people's incomes or professions when they're expressing views in line with your own.

You definitely know more about the current Wolves team, the players attributes than I do as you see them more often than me. You keep me up to date and in touch with a club that I love. If it wasn't for your blog and yours and other people on this forum, verdict thread I would lose touch what is happening at Wolves.
She has a vote the same as me or you. She is rich and can help the poor, that's great, but her political opinion is just that, it is not worth anymore than yours or mine. She gets an award for acting, not preaching to us about politics.

She is getting an award for her acting, not her political knowledge.

No, but she is in a position where she can have a wider influence than me. I don't think Trump would be too concerned if I stood up in my office and criticised his behaviour.

We need people who can reach a wider audience to speak out against what is unacceptable.

So? You're just making ad hominen attacks with no value and, once again, avoiding addressing the points made.

Not an attack at all. Just her opinion is not worth anymore than yours or mine. If I became a famous actor, would you want to hear my political opinions and me running my Prime Minister down, before he was inaugurated? When I go to collect my Grammy.

I don't understand your point. We hear your opinion all the time and I'm not sure you're famous at all. You speak to your audience (us, for our sins) and she speaks to hers. Just because her audience is bigger than yours doesn't make her opinions less valid or worthy of expression. You can of course, choose to put her on ignore by not clicking on articles about or by her.

He's such a lovely, honest chap. So pleased he's about to become one of the most powerful people on the planet.

Quite how his campaign was allowed to continue after this disgraceful episode is beyond me.

Depressingly, it doesn't seem to matter any more. Spout a load of lies, who cares. Enter into arguments where your standpoint is demonstrably untrue on every single count, who needs facts and evidence. Behave like an appalling bigot, well you're just "telling it like it is", like Farage and Katie Hopkins. Vulgarism? Fair game. Mocking the afflicted? Fuck them, they look and sound funny anyway. Don't have a comeback to an argument? Chuck a soundbite out, call your opponent "the elite" or something - your comeback doesn't have to make any sense.

I live in hope that this fad goes away because it's not pleasant to be surrounded by it at the moment.

Anyway, I'm not rich or famous so perhaps you'll accept a couple of opinions from me and give me a response...

It's irresponsible for the rich and powerful to mock and bully those with less wealth and power than themselves. Doing so incites and invites similar actions in society as a whole which is an undesirable outcome.

The press have a responsibility to hold to account people, organisations, institutions and companies which wield power, rather than serve to increase and augment that power.

THM - agree or disagree? Show your workings. Or ignore me, it's really doesn't matter.

I said from the outset, I don't like Trump. The video of him mocking a disabled person, is despicable. I can't think of anything more sickening. I believe it should be a criminal offence to do that.
The press has a responsibility to hold people to account. In the case of the BBC, who I always supported till Brexit, they are paid by the taxpayers and should be impartial, they weren't and aren't.
I dislike Trump, but agree with him threatening big multinational USA car companies with higher tarrifs, if they want to chose cheap labour in other countries and avoid tarrifs when the cars are imported to the USA, which is the opposite of what the EU have been doing. They have protected the multinationals over the workers of the companies that made them rich. There has to be a human impact for the decisions that these companies make. What Trump has already done, is said you can't have your cake and eat it. This has already made the multinationals change relocation decisions and invest back in the communities that made them what they are.
I am sure Meryl Streep never mentioned anything about that. Not that I would want her too!

Surely there's enough incitement to hatred and slander on Trump's Twitter to allow the Government to impeach him?

Yes and do the same with Hillary Clinton for her emails.
Seriously, the people knew about these things before the election. What is happening lately, people are finding it hard to take defeat and are trying to change the democratic will of the electorate.
I think this is very unhealthy for a democracy.

Yeah we should let him tweet whatever the fuck he likes. After all, he's the PUSA soon.
