Obviously Fox etc spun things to be much worse under Obama than they really were, but at the same time there have to be reasons why Republican voters chose trump over the original favourite - Jeb Bush. A lot of voters did feel marginalised by the system. They tried to say so at the time, but their voices were ignored by us 'elites'.
Then supposing HRC had won the Presidency, what would we have had? Four years of a Republican House and Senate carrying out investigations into Benghazi and her emails, and a complete impasse when it came to actual government. More frustration would have led to a greater probability of an outsider (from either party) winning this time round. And the republican candidate would not be trump but an actual leader, someone even more determined to destroy democracy, and much more capable with it. trump has undoubtedly been the worst President ever, but at least he has been incompetent. The country has had the chance to see what he is trying to do, to vote him out before he succeeds. and to return to the values of a liberal democracy.
It is perfectly valid to argue that he has been a necessary evil.
