Transfer Speculation Thread 2014/15

I too want us to go for Pringle, which would allow Jacobs to play through the middle - a position I feel he is better in. Pringle seems far too good for League 1 and wouldn't cost the earth.

If we are looking for someone with a little bit more physical presence than Price to play alongside McDonald on occasions next season, I wouldn't be totally against going back in for Luke Murphy at Leeds who is still young and has Championship experience under his belt.

It'll be interesting to see who KJ targets because from all the reports so far we will be going for "young and hungry" type players again.

Wouldn't be against going back in for Murphy at all but think he may be a bit costly as he was bought for a million only last year. That said their future is hardly certain, and Leeds fans haven't been that impressed with him from what I've read online

A replacement for Edwards is the biggest priority for me. He's had an excellent second half to the season, but I'd like someone who can really contribute to our passing and moving style, and think his ball control means too much breaks down with him. Happy for KJ/KT to suprise me with who it is, as I'd never have called out McDonald and Jacobs out as the guys we should sign and they've been awesome.

Edwards doesn't get in our strongest XI now, Sako-Jacobs-Henry is our best three behind the striker. If he could maintain this form - he actually has played really well generally of late, not just tapping goals in Seyi style - AND stay fit then fine. They are too very big ifs though because he has never done either.

True, but we've rotated the four quite a bit with both Henry and sako on the bench. That's the position I'd be looking for the biggest signing, and the biggest impact.

Jacobs needs to be our main man behind the striker. We need more cover out wide.

Agreed. Jacobs is potentially the star man for us really I feel. He's very talented and has a real swagger about him, there's plenty to work on I think too. Players such as Pringle and Pritchard have been mentioned, Pritchard would be the better option I feel as he can play across the front three whereas Pringle (though a very good player!) seemed more of a wideman. I'd like Ismail to be involved too

We don't need more cover wide.

Sako, Jacobs, Henry, Eusebio, Ismail. Dicko can play wide too. We do not need seven wide options.

We've got no idea how Ismail or Eusebio will do at Champ level. Dicko shouldn't be playing wide unless it's an emergency.

That leaves 3 players for 2 positions. Considering the way we play relies on the three behind the striker then I'd say it was important that we have good players as cover.

It's not though, is it. If Eusebio and Ismail aren't good enough to be in the squad then they shouldn't be here. And I imagine won't be. But as it stands they are and so you are advocating having SIX wide players for two spots. That's lunacy.

Well Jackett has to decide that and make the appropriate decisions to send them out on loan and buy new players or not. He'll live and die by those decisions. Me personally would be buying another one.

My wishlist....4 players:

A centre half
A central midfielder - I'd test Brentford's resolve on Forshaw
Attacking midfielder - Pritchard or Pringle
A striker

I'd be willing to go into the season with just Scott Goldbourne - short term we could switch Ricketts but we can use the loan market up until end of November (and we have the January window) so not too concerned about that position.

What have we got at U21 level in way of a left back?

Clearly Jamie Reckord has missed the boat, a shame as he showed some initial promise, and will be gonna soon

Don't know...we let most go. O'Hanlon rings a bell. Is he still with us?

Hause can play left back.

Agreed. If we play our strongest 3 (Sako, Jacobs, Henry). We have no one else, and id want 2 players who can play in those positions on the bench every week. Ismail who struggled to make an impact in L1 isn't within 6 months going to start tearing up the championship. And Eusebio hasnt played any first team football. He may be great (ive never seen him play), but i think it will be more likely that him and Ismail may be loaned out.

We need a striker, and a CM on top of a good wide player and probably a CB as not sure EEL is up to it.

Left back is an interesting one, unless you include Ricketts we have zero cover, so you'd think we'll strengthen here, but if we do it should be to genuinely challenge Golbourne not to offer cover. The 3-4 signings I think we'll make all need to be with the intention of going into the first team or at least seriously challenging, no Halford/Maierhoffer type squad fillers.

Goldbourne and Ricketts left back
Ricketts, Stearmen and Doherty right back
Ricketts, Stearman, Baath centre half
Ebanks-Landell is obviously in Jackett's thoughts

There is quite a lot of defensive options and unless we can bring in someone at least as good or better than the above I don't see it as a priority.

Midfield and upfront is where we will strengthen in my opinion and many of the players Wolves were strongly linked with this season may well be back on the radar and most of them have been midfielders and forwards, I can't recall one defender that we have been linked with since Jackett came in apart from Golbourne and Ricketts, who we signed, and Hause who we signed without ever really being linked with him.

One thing I'd like to see us do is get a back up goalkeeper so we can send McCarey out on loan to a League 1 club to get more experience. We wont be willing to pay much for a back up obviously, does anybody know of any goalkeepers that are out of contract this summer who could come in and cover for Ikeme?

I thought the guy Korstna was a decent right back which leaves Ricketts as cover for LB.
