The Video Games Thread II - The Resurrection

Just the basic engineer RPG.

I was on the roof defending the Northern most flag (forget the name) when it appeared right above me, I missed with my first shot in all the excitement!

You're either making an amusing pun or simply saying your machine is really old. Do you guys have Steam over there or is that a US only thing?

Yes - we do have Steam t3ch - and I have to say I've had some real bargains in their sales.
Every GTA game + expansions (including GTA4) for £5. Must be the deal of the century!

I think Toon has to wind up his PC from the sound of things!

Pretty much this! It's about 5 years old and has had no upgrades and struggles a bit with a lot of websites that have Flash ads. It certainly wouldn't be able to handle the games that are around today!

Yessir, looking forward to loading up again this holiday season. I always buy a bunch of their mega-sale-games in December or on Black Friday.

Managed an 18 kill streak on MW3 last night, and despite some HORRENDOUS lag at times, a distinct lack of quick scoping too.

I decided to go back and have another play through LA Noire and try and get some of the secrets that I'd missed (like the 50 film reels and The Badge City Challenge). I forgot how much I enjoyed this game. Fabulous stuff, and the downloadable cases are now only 320MS points. Whilst perusing the menus I noticed,, Mr Langdale, that you'd only completed 14 of the 21 missions (according to that Social Club thing). Shame on you, sir...Get it done.

This is true - I haven't finished it yet. Not had the time!! With MW3 currently living in the disc tray, Skyrim and Arkham City winging their way over to me via Santa, I don't know when I will.

Too many games, too little time...

started skyrim now. did the golden claw mission last night. good dungeon for low level which bodes well.

not sure how to manage the levelling and perks. Just made it to level 3 and no idea what perk to take. i'm already overladen with scrolls, potions, ingredients and food after 1 dungeon.

I'm level 20 and I still can't decide which perks to take! I started off with 2 handed because it seemed quite powerful but the weapons were really heavy. I've now changed to one handed alongside destruction/conjuration spells in the other hand....although I do carry a bow as well.....
I think I'm going to end up a Jack Of All Trades and Master Of None.

PS I'm now 36 hours in - I've just visited my second town. No major quest lines completed yet. No guild quest lines completed yet. Just wandering around having fun.

I love this game!

In past games I majored in heavy armour and two handed weapons cos I liked the toe to toe scrapping, but whilst in Daggerfall you had a horse and cart to transport the heavy stuff around it was a major problem in Morrowind when you were completely on foot. The heavy stuff then became a big problem to haul around.

Having sad that, you can solve anything with magic. Maybe you can eventually enchant an item with a constant feather effect if they still have that spell?

I've still got two perks to claim so gonna have to understand the upwards perk chain. tempted by advancing the enchantment line but I think it's too early. At the moment I'm running around in just a mages robe and other than a bit of archery I've hardly raised a weapon in anger.

have you got a horse yet? how much do they cost?

I also accidently kicked off the main quest by claiming a bounty. Riverwood probably gonna get wasted by a dragon any day now lol.

I bought my first horse for 1000 gold.

The horses do like to fight alongside you! He was very nice but eventually died facing an Ice Wraith.

They are useful for travelling along the plains but not so good in the mountains. If you have a companion, they have to run along behind you and the horse!

Awesome, got Battlefield 3 for free with the 160gb SSD I bought.

Sweet. Which SSD did you buy? I have a Crucial C300 64GB running on Sata3.

SSDs are awesome.

Tried to give BF3 a go last night for first time in weeks and so also first time since the patch. Couldn't get more than 5minutes out of it before it would crash. Tried campaign and multiplayer and got same results. Tried EA Support and got someone who at one point I started to worry had died at the computer. After about 20minutes of silence while they looked over my computer settings they decided I needed to simply update my graphics drivers apparently from 11.11 to 11.11. I gave up after that. I'll wait until the next patch which will no doubt come with the release of back to Karkand.

Skyrim is awesome and although having played it for far too many hours I still feel like I've done nothing. Need to put it aside for a bit and get cracking with Zelda but the first couple hours so far haven't really grabbed me. Far too early to judge a Zelda game but it felt like a collection of best bits rather than having it's own uniqueness about it.

At moment Steam are having their "autumn sale". Current deals finish at 6pm and includes the complete GTA pack for £4.99. Another Humblebundle is up at moment too, http://www.humblebundle.com/. Pay what you want (yes even 1p if your cheap). Worth it for Defcon alone really.

Got an unexpected £50 bonus at work for helping out on a last minute emergency. Paid in high street vouchers.

Reeeeeee-sult.

Might get Skyrim before Christmas then.

Oh, MW3 improving massively with plenty of patches eradicating the glitches and the lag. It's really quite enjoyable now.

Who are you trying to convince, yourself!? On another forum I use (NFL) the almost universal opinion is that it is a complete waste of money if you own another CoD game.

Haters gotta hate.

I like it and I'll carry on playing it, thanks all the same.

SSDs are awesome.

"Intel 320 Series SSDSA2CW160G3K5 2.5" 160GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive"

Wanted to hold out for a 120GB+ SATA III from OCZ but I couldn't pass up the price and size of the (more reliable) Intel.

Just ordered another SSD, will have to selll the other one now, I guess...

Corsair Force Series GT CSSD-F180GBGT-BK 2.5" 180GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

An SSD for your OS drive is the best upgrade money can buy IMO.
