The Video Games Thread II - The Resurrection

A bit of a let down IMO.

Too expensive, a lot of 'deluxe editions' of games already available, paid online service, less than satisfactory battery life.

Zelda obviously looks amazing but I'll just get that for the Wii U. Didn't think Mario looked all that great - don't like the 'real world' aspects to it, Mario Kart is just the Wii U version with extra tracks.

Basically a Nintendo console needs to do something the others can't do with fresh, new, exclusive games and I didn't really think it showed that well enough to justify £280, which will get you a very decent XB1/PS4 bundle these days.

I agree Langers, I think it's a massive miss fire from Nintendo. It's not even full HD, only 720p.

And a potential battery life of 2.5 hours is ridiculous in a device that's labelled as portable.

The games library is poor but that's pretty standard with new consoles. Not impressed with the look of the new Mario.

They said Zelda could be played portably for three hours. More with less graphically intensive games.

Yeah I think the norm will be 6 hours. Zelda is huge and will use up more power apparently. But that's still not a long time really.

I think it's probably being released 6 months too early. Plenty of promise if they can get it right but it looks very much like they'll have to rely on first party games because the third party titles are always going to be geared towards the XB1 and PS4 which are more powerful and far more accessible.

The Wii U is an amazing machine that's been criminally underused. I don't know if that's down to the shit marketing or not but I don't want to see Switch go the same way.

Yeah, though they've said 2.5 to 6 hours - which in my opinion often leads to being towards the bottom end of the estimate.

Just think it's another negative for the Switch. Hope I'm wrong though.

I think the Wii U was confused from the outset, the Wii was aimed at casual gamers but the Wii U wasn't aimed at the same market.

Sadly no-one really realised the Wii U was really good until too late in it's life.

I feel the Switch may be another doomed console for Nintendo and that's really sad.

They did specifically say Zelda would use up more than the standard games.

I have no way of checking but I imagine the wii U did ok in Japan, they certainly still make a lot from DS stuff. If the switch ends up effectively replacing that as well as the wii u it could take off. I'm fairly sure my 3ds only gets about 4/5 hours before needing charging and that's never bothered me.

Agree with Langers that it's a bit soon, get a few more games ready and sell it at Christmas instead.

The WiiU was Nintendo's worst selling hardware in their entire history.

Yep. Because they didn't clearly show what it could actually do when they marketed it. Maybe they thought 'the next Wii' would sell regardless but it's a totally different beast and was never shown off properly.

It's such a fantastic console - some seriously amazing games and there's zelda still to come but it was a massive failure in terms of sales.

Incredible that once upon a time Sega and Nintendo were the kings of this market, now both are likely to be out of the hardware game entirely.

I guarantee that as time progresses the games that will be developed for the Switch will require more and more power and battery life will decrease. Games requiring the power that Zelda uses will become more and more normal.

I would imagine that Skyrim will drain the battery massively as well.

@Langers

Lego Worlds, looks like a Minecraft type game, I dont mind chill out games like this so if yam getting it let us know..

Micro has just started Fallout 4 and the brilliant looking Watch_Dogs 2. With this and Skyrim that is 2017 pretty much sorted for gaming!

Not played Watch Dogs 2, the original put me off as the first was dreadful. Heard some good things about 2, would be interested to hear views on it from anyone whose played it.

I enjoyed the original but it could have been SO much better. First impressions are that 2 looks absolutely beautiful. Driving seems pretty similar to GTA in the mechanic so that is good. I am guessing it will live and die on the quality of the plot.

Doubt I will tbh mate. The kids love Minecraft and they've got the awesome Lego Dimensions for all their Lego needs. And Lego The Force Awakens which is excellent as well.

Don't think they could fit in this other one. I've not heard much about it actually - so don't know if it's supposed to be any good or not.

The driving mechanics really annoyed me in the first one, I felt they were really clunky. The plot didn't work for me either, probably only played 50% before moving onto another game.

If Micro loved Skyrim he will really enjoy Fallout 4 Paddington.
I have played Fallout 4 now for 200 hours and still haven't finished the main quest - and I still have all the DLC to play.
The amount of content and side quests in the game is unbelievable.
I am alternating my small amount of free gaming time between Skyrim, Fallout 4 and Witcher 3 at the moment.
That's my 2017 sorted as well!!

The name you use for him is ace...isn't Micro about 6ft 2 now?....
