The Transfer Thread 2024/25 - Everything Not Wolves

Ipswich signing Muric from Burnley.

Greaves
Delap
Hutchinson
Johnson
Muric

They don't look that inspired as a set of incomings to a squad that was playing in League One 14 months ago, not cheap either.

Tough one for them I guess with how quickly they’ve progressed.

Muric actually looked alright I thought when he came in, maybe just compared to Trafford but he made a big difference. Couple of huge errors he made though.

Johnson - meh

Greaves & Hutchinson - promising but unproven.

delap - not seen anything from him to suggest he’s a premier league player but guess they do..

I wonder if they'll be better than the sum of their parts.

McKenna will be the key to their survival.

I think Leicester are in deep trouble, the same with Soton given the weakness of their particular squads. Cooper is a fairly poor manager too.

After that it's anybody.

Similar vibes to Burnley last year. Because they are relatively unknown the amount they've actually spent will go under the radar.

They almost signed Philogene as well before Villa stuck their beak in so you'd imagine they've got a bit more to spend on another forward as well.

Apparently they're quite restricted as under Evans they completely abolished their European scouting network and they're understandably reluctant to spend big on players they haven't researched thoroughly. They obviously didn't expect to be at this level this early so they've got to spend the PL money with the long term future in mind, not just this season. I think if they do go straight back down the players they've signed will have resale value or will be good Championship players.

Russell Martin's ego is going to trip Saints up, he won't be pragmatic at all.

I know quite a few Saints fans and they're all very pessimistic. There doesn't appear to be much of a plan for what comes next after promotion.

Also Lallana. They're all fuming about signing him.

Current odds to go down:

Leicester 2/5 (I do think they'll get some kind of points deduction which might factor into this price as well)
Ipswich 8/11
Southampton 11/8
Nottm Forest 2/1
Everton 2/1
Wolves 7/2
Brentford 9/2
Fulham 5/1
Bournemouth 8/1
Crystal Palace 8/1

I would have an eye on Fulham at that price, I like Silva as a manager but Tosin and Palhinha are huge losses for them (got no money for the former too), Willian may be off too, also in both their seasons since coming back up Leno has massively outperformed xGA which can't go on forever.

Palace have bid €12M for Marcus Edwards as well.

Edwards lost his place in the Sporting first XI last season but that's still a pretty insulting bid. It's a weird one to go for after losing Olise as well. He's a bit style over substance for me. Also, Edwards is... Let's say he's not the most humble guy. Could potentially be a disruptive influence if it doesn't work out.

Forest are obviously a bit of a mess off the field but the longer Nuno has with that squad the safer they'll be IMO. It wouldn't surprise me if after a full, settled pre season he had them comfortably mid table.

They weren’t far off performing at that level by the end of last season I thought

I dunno man, this isn't a great finish (two wins at the end against already relegated opposition bumping up the PPG)

ION seems that Blues have handed 31 year old Alfie May a three year deal on £16k/wk, in League One.

Hope they really fuck it up while they're down there, fans are still busy crawling over broken glass to praise the owners who relegated them.

I remember him seeming an exciting prospect on this forum years back - never really went that well for him did it.

Tbf he's got an excellent record over the last three seasons - 66 league goals and not in good teams either. Before that he was underwhelming for a long time after his prolific non-league days. But that's a huge wedge on someone who is that age and has never even played Championship football. How are you going to punt him on to another L1 club at 32 (or older) on that kind of money, you won't.

He's a year older now than Chris Iwelumo was when he signed for Wolves.
