The Rugby Thread

Fair play to Scotland, they played their arses off, but if I was Michael Cheika I'd have the whole Australia squad tested for drugs after that showing. The back row in particular was unrecognisable compared to the Wales and England games.

"If I see referee Craig Joubert again, I am going to tell him how disgusted I am. It was disgraceful that he ran straight off the pitch at the end like that.

"The referee is not expected to make the right decision all the time. That's what the TMO system is in place for. This is the quarter-final of a Rugby World Cup. This is the highest end of our sport and they have to get these decisions right."

I think Mr Joubert is going to be steering clear of Gavin Hastings for a while.

Bernard Foley was dreadful today apart from the last kick. Really think they took Scotland for granted today at times.

Didn't see any of the Ireland game due to our match being on at the same time, really am shocked at how big a defeat it was.
Yet again Ireland have promised at World Cup but have flattered to deceive.

Cheers Leeds, love it when the super league starts, it's always an indicator that we are getting close to the end of winter.

No worries. I shall be watching the first 3 weeks of fixtures from the comfort of a living room in Australia. I'm just hoping the Wallabies don't win this WC.

Make sure you give the convicts plenty of shit mate, my trips to Australia are a thing of the past now.

Penalty against Scotland was wrong but all those harping on at the ref for not consulting the TMO need to have a look at rules involving the use of TMO.

Agreed JD, extremely unfortunate for the Scots to lose out on the most marginal of calls, but in real time with the ball flying about like that off bodies its an almost impossible, but if we had to refer to the TMO for every decision the game would go on for as long as an NFL one.

What the fuck the Scots were doing deciding to throw to the back of the line out in the last minute in pissing rain was a far worse call then Joubert's.

As much as we wanted the underdog to do well and NH Hemisphere bias, I doubt it would help the tournament as a spectacle, least now we should have 2 good semi-finals.

It would have been an Aussie scrum at worst, and there's no reason to think that Australia couldn't have scored from that either.

I think the biggest complaint about the referee is that he ran off the field immediately after blowing the full time whistle.

Absolutely 100% agree with you, the reason Scotland lost was the decision to throw long. Throw it short look after the ball.
Seems to be a regular thing with Scotland having brave failure and praising failure. Lost count the amount of times they have lost in tight games and there fans, press and ex players laud them as hero's.
If for example SA lose to NZ in similar fashion they'll ask the question why they lost and how can they improve.

He did get it wrong. But it happened very quickly indeed. I bet he wishes he had just given the Australian scrum instead. The level of attack he is under is harsh indeed. Yes, Scotland were hard done by, but they had an easy way to avoid that by throwing to the front of the lineout and keeping the ball. Australia couldn't smash them out of play like Wales did to England as the scoreboard was against them.

The likes of Kenny Logan should really be embarrassed about the rhetoric they have come out with since this incident.
Again they're hiding away from the real fact that the reason the incident occurred in the first place was because of a balls up line out. It would have been a scrum to so there's every chance they would have created another scoring chance.
