The Royals

Well for the second time in a couple of days you demonstrate that I don't really belong in forum world as I don't want to become embroiled in endless arguments with people I don't know but like to read opinions and occasionally give my own (fwiw).

I'm not so much disagreeing with every single point he makes in his diatribe but the overall tone and sentiment of it, especially with his style of delivery.

As I said the other day, I support the Royals as others do not. I wouldn't want us to be a republic and with the disastrous choices we make when offered democratic votes, I don't see that a 'democratically' chosen President is better than a Queen or King.

Listening to Stanhope with his bar room drunk delivery generalising us as a country of retards and simpletons immediately gets my back up and lessens anything else he might go on to say though I get this is done in the name of humour rather than politcal commentary.

Some found it funny, some did not
You do belong and you do know me :D

I wouldn't let videos like that bother you, I'm more bothered that the country is a complete cesspit in so many ways compared to 20 years ago.

I agree with you Lupo.

Stanhope does have that style and it is supposed to get your back up.

I do find being lectured by Americans on democracy amusing considering you only get to choose rich people with better blood lines in their opinion. Almost like a monarchy...

But most Americans I have met do like the royal family.

Indeed and though our election process is far from perfect, we at least have votes on party leaders and in elections which decide which party rules, of course our method isn't great but its not a battle between 2 extremely rich people allowing the likes of Trump to transition from TV prick to the world's most powerful man

I do know you yes!

I agree with your point about the direction the country is heading but I'll still defend it as much as I can

With me or Stanhope?

You're disagreeing with me not finding him funny!
No, I'm 'not disagreeing' with the fact that you and I have an opinion. So it differs? It's not an issue to me.

@Lupo careful now, I've got family members with more firepower than this whole forum put together. ;)

Any sort of democracy is better than a system based on birth.

Looks like Sky have edited out a bit on the Queen on Last Week Tonight.

First thing that's pissed me off in all this.

Was her middle name Mohamed??

That bit is in. Just before it starts there is bad edit point and it restarts as John Oliver is ending the segment

Look, the US has myriad sociopolitical problems, but this comparison to monarchy is stretching it.
Not really, look at the Kennedy dynasty for an example of that.

Trump, both Bush's (whose grandfather proffited from the Nazis). All backed by old money. Essentially a blood line and literally blood money.

Not denying any of that, but there’s a difference between being a Kennedy and being the god damn Queen of England by birth.

Indeed, the Kennedy's are born into power as well as entitlement.

The British royal family (like all European royals) have no power.

The US will barely bat an eyelash when Joe Kennedy dies.

They’re operating at different scales of social and economic power. Sure, it’s the 1% vs the 0.1%, but that’s not the same.
