The Royals

"The argument for the abolition always comes back to 'look at France' still enjoy a thriving tourism without a Royal family"

"The tourism argument is a red herring bar a one off event every couple of decades."

"I believe the Palace of Versailles is the most visited tourist attraction in Europe?

It's been a long while since there was any royalty in it!

We don't need the royal family for tourism, no one who comes here actually sees them, they like looking at the buildings."

Not sure why people feel to turn up to hold up the signs etc but they certainly shouldn't be arrested for it. The zero protest stuff from the Government is all a bit North Korean/Russia.
Not quite is it ? I mean their loved ones we will see these people again

Very concerning to see people arrested and charged for holding anti Royal signs in Edinburgh and London...also a lady arrested for calling Andrew a nonce, which is da truth

People's accounts of the arrests are filled with the police not being sure why they are arresting them but they have to do it and 1 guy with a blank piece of paper being told if he writes anything that may offend (i.e Not my King) he will be arrested.

It's very odd how accepting people are of this. Really disappointing in fact.

I did say a bit like rather than totally like. The don't protest bit rather than the don't protest and say goodbye to your loved ones bit

Do you think a period of mourning is an apt moment for you to air your grievances ?
I don't but they have and the ones who have been arrested are not breaching the peace (maybe can say shouting nonce at Andy is) so certainly shouldn't be arrested and then charged for it.

If you're staying at Center Parcs then you have to piss off on Monday and then come back on Tuesday (I dunno, sleep in the car or something, because you'll be miles away from anywhere and you have less than a week to sort something out). It's ok because they'll give you 17% off.

Just mental.

There’s already people saying “ we’ve been given less than a weeks notice, too late to sort something out” how dare the queen not give these people advance notice of her death so they could sort another holiday out

Did I say they should ?? Do you think a period of mourning is an apt moment for you to air your grievances ?
No but your sentiment suggested you may feel they should be.

It doesn't really matter whether I think it's an apt moment or not, we live in a democracy, supposedly, and if they aren't doing anything illegal, then they shouldn't be arrested.

Yet they are, which is very much the kind of thing that most people are disgusted by when countries such as Iran, North Korea or Russia do it.

Or Center Parcs could do something that's not off the scale hatstand crazy?
They've given plenty of options to be fair, split your holiday, take the chunk either side with partial refund or sack the whole thing off for a full refund.

I'm not sure there's a "to be fair" when you're turfing people out for 24 hours because er, I don't know why.

All of them are pretty shit with less than a week to go though aren't they?

The rubbish must be piling up around here because our local councillors have swapped photos of them doing litter picks to photos of them signing a book of condolence. Look at me, look at me.

Others on social media are going out of their way to be the most angry about anyone who hasn’t conformed to the prescribed national grief. Look at me, look at me.

For me, it is news. Interesting in so far as I have a recently acquired respect for some of our traditions, they are still bizarre but they are our bizarre. I get that for many the monarchy has a much greater impact on their lives, does me no harm but not my thing. The Queen dying, the accession of a new monarch is news and I don’t even mind the rolling news coverage (except Nicholas Witchall the fawning toad).

I agree with most of this.

The look at me stuff is grating.

Agreed.

I
Not even the most visited in France or even Paris.
