The Road To Germany 2024

Kane MOTM for me held the ball up well and dropped deep at times to feed other players should have had an assist if Grealish had scored.

I’m feeling old now. They mentioned a game from 45 years ago and I remember it. 🙁

3 straight games involving wolves and England when the officiating hasn’t just been bad it’s been an absolute shambles.

Shambles?

Shaw deserved to be sent off. I wish more refs would book more players for stealing 20 yards after being told not to, at least once.

Then to make that tackle was daft.

Don’t agree on that at all it was all the other inconsistencies. Letting some challenges go then pulling others up.
Look how Maguire picks up his yellow for time wasting it stemmed from him blowing up when he should have played advantage.

With @Johnny75 on this. Thought the ref taking early action on time wasting was a good thing.
Pmgol take note.

Oh, and Maguire really is a weak link in our back 4. Thought stones was very good tonight.

Real game of 2 halves. Thought England would go on to thrash Italy on first half showing and should have been further ahead but Italy controlled the second half, especially when the superb Gnonto came on. Good goal for Retegui and in the end England were maybe a tad fortunate to hold on for the win

Wouldn't say we were fortunate, Pickford made no saves of any note.

We could have kept the ball better and got some fresher legs on sooner, but it's nitpicking really.

Was actually at this game believe it or not!

I thought England were miles better first-half (or at least what I saw - Italian authorities were shambolic so I missed the start). Should have been 3-0 if Grealish puts that chance away.

Second-half England were off the pace, very sloppy to begin and rightfully punished, we kept getting caught out by some basic passing triangles. Philips struggled a fair bit there, also thought Walker had a lot of trouble v Gnoto. In the stadium the atmosphere was pretty nervy but looking back we shut up shop well after the red and handled everything fine. Made it look quite routine and no saves Pickford needed to make.

Bellingham was good, as was Kane, also thought Gallagher did an excellent job to press and break up play his brief cameo and Southgate's changes were generally correct, if a bit late.

With games like the Croatia semi-final and the Italy final, we've taken the lead and played well but not seen the victory out. Expecting a team to dominate the entire match at international level is unfair, but today we played well, scored when on top and have seen the game out when under pressure. It's a big result to beat a top nation away from home competitively, pretty pleasing to have that as my first away trip for an international game.

Great point for Wales in Croatia (wrecked a bet of mine though, bastards)

Another coupon buster, Kazakhstan beat Denmark 3-2. Denmark were 2-0 up with 17 minutes to go and 2-1 up with 4 minutes to go.

Chilwell, Henderson and Maddison in for England in place of Shaw, Phillips and Grealish. Foden not involved as he's had his appendix out.

Edit: No James either.

Ukraine very lucky not to give a penalty away
