The Road To Germany 2024

Well you could argue it was in England's best interests to lose to Belgium in the 2018 World Cup, in a format we all agree is spot on.

It's a weird anomaly and I'll happily bet anyone that Ireland don't get a playoff.

That's not binary though, that's subjective - as you say "it could be argued".

Where as Ireland 100% improve their chances of qualifying by losing.

Pretty sure watching Taylor's England or Hoddle's England in qualifiers wasn't that good. Or Venables' England in a load of friendlies that were almost all very low scoring.

And that's virtually the whole non-tournament 1990s covered.

I grew out of the FA Cup Final day in ‘88 so probably around the same time. That game was just so dull.

I've no real interest but probably would have watched but the missus wants to watch CIN.
We've already qualified, Southgate doesn't seem to be interested in experimenting so it's all a bit pointless for me. Also I think the internationals are so regular that it's lost its shine, just gets in the way of league football.

Guarantee that anyone watching the 2023 equivalent of 'all day' FA Cup Final stuff would say it was awful.

Just there was nothing else to watch in 1983 and there was about 2% of the amount of football available as now.

The only England games I watch these days are finals. Didn't really pay much attention ti them either.
