Roy Hayward 99, nobody famous, D-Day veteran, tank crewman, lost both his legs when his tank was ambushed and exploded, despite his injuries he saved all the other crew in the tank.
When asked he said his injuries were just bad luck, but I made it home unlike many others, let’s remember them.

Im forever amazed at how matter of factly that generation describe absolutely horrific events.

George Eastham OBE has sadly died at the age of 88, Stoke City have announced.
Top player and a true gentleman of the game - scored Stoke's winning goal against Chelsea in the 1972 League Cup Final - also saw him play for Stoke a number of times.

Was one of the 22 squad members for England for the 1966 World Cup Finals. of which, sadly, only 3 are still alive - Geoff Hurst, Terry Paine and Ian Callagham.
 
Part of Tony Waddington's team of the 60s and 70s including other 'veterans' like Peter Dobing (played for Blackburn in the 1960 FA,Cup final), Harry Burrows, Denis Violet, Maurice Setters, Jimny McIlroy and the legendary Stanley Matthews
