Aged 20 he was the officer in charge of diffusing unexplored munitions on sword beach just after D-Day while the Germans were still firing on them, invalided out of service after a 5 foot long mine exploded as he was walking towards it, shrapnel partially severed his spinal cord! He said I thought I’d been kicked by a horse, but the best bit was I had to tell my story every time I set the metal detectors off at the airport.
These obituaries always read like boys own stories, sadly another step closer to the Second World War passing out of living history.

Yeah, Book didn't turn pro until he'd turned 30 and joined Plymouth Argyle. I certainly remember seeing him play for Man City. The backline of Pardoe, Booth, Doyle, Book...

Saw them at the hare & hounds in Kings heath, in 2015 I think. They were great for some funky disco. Sad to say as well as Danielle, my mate who I went with (& loads of other gigs) is also no longer with us
