The R.I.P. Thread

Looks good to me Pad.

Here's an alternate.

Keith Moon (Drums)
Lemmy (Bass)
John Lennon (Rhythm Guitar)
Jimi Hendrix (Lead Guitar)
Freddie Mercury (Vocals)

Loads more we could have had too. Dio, Bowie, Bon Scott, Karen Carpenter, Michael Jackson, Duane Allman, George Harrison, James Brown, Janis Joplin, Elvis, Gary Moore, etc.

Neil Peart-drums
John Entwistle-bass
Malcolm Young-rhythm guitar
Rory Gallagher-lead
Joe Cocker-vocals

Young and Gallagher would have been awesome. I also considered Cliff Burton for bass and Stevie Ray Vaughan for lead.

Wish I'd thought of Dio, was listening to him on the way home from work

John Bonham- drums
John Entwistle- bass
Tommy Bolin- rhythm guitar
Jimi Hendrix- lead guitar
Joe Cocker- vocals

Sorted :)

Cozy Powell - Drums
Phil Lynott - Bass
Gary Moore - Lead Guitar
Malcolm Young - Rhythm Guitar
Ronnie James Dio - Vocals

Don't forget Jon Lord and Keith Emerson for your keyboard needs

Would Jimi be the best choice for a band?? Jimi's all about being Jimi. He's not gonna shine as a guitarist in a band. You'd be better off with someone like George Harrison.

I have decided to form a barbershop quartet, consisting of Scott Weiland, Chris Cornell, Chester Bennington & Kurt Cobain.

Three piece:

Keith Moon - drums
George Harrison - guitar
Jeff Buckley - vocals

Ginger Baker was a better drummer but he was also the biggest cunt on the planet, so no.

I'm having Scott Walker or Aretha on vocals.

See, you're not going to have Aretha in a guitar-based band.

In terms of female solo singers, either Dusty Springfield or Eva Cassidy.

Janis Joplin would definitely work with a Malcolm Young guitar sound. Would sound like a female Bon Scott.

Buddy Rich
John entwhistle
George harrison guitar/vocals
Tom petty guitar/vocals
Steve marriot. Lead Vocals/guitar

Subs: Strummer, Orbison, Lennon.

Buddy Rich apparently was not as revered by the jazz fraternity as you'd think, his clamour for exposure and fame did not sit well with his peers.

Kudos on the Steve Marriot recognition though

ps. Ginger Baker was a narcissistic twat, loved Cream hated him

He's just the drummer.
Couldn't have Moon as I'd already got Entwhistle and Topper isn't dead yet surprisingly.

Normally this thread is depressing. No surprise there. So in an attempt to lighten the mood, a LOT of musicians have left us. What would be the line up that you would would want to see entering the upstairs (or indeed downstairs!) battle of the bands? One per band that have multiple musicians that have left us.

I would have fucking loved to have seen the following

John Bonham (drums)
Malcolm Young (guitars)
Phil Lynott (bass)
Randy Rhoads (lead)
Ronnie Van Zant (vocals)*

*thought about Janis Joplin there. Plus Hendrix instead of Rhoads naturally

Lead Singer Marie Fredericksen ( Roxette)
Bass and vocals Phil Lynott (same birthday as me)
Piano and Vocals John Lennon
drums Cozy Powell
Lead guitar- Hendrix

That lot would make some noise!

Chris Cornell - Vocals and Rhythm
Jerry Garcia - Lead Guitar & Vocals
Cliff Burton - Bass
John Bonham - Drums

Guest appearances from B.B.King

Vocals Joplin, Morrison, Winehouse
Lead Guitar Edwards, Hendrix, Cobain
Keyboards/Piano Jones
Then we'll have a big fuck off party for their 28th
