The R.I.P. Thread

Celtic legend Tommy Gemmell has died aged 73 following a long illness.

R.I.P.

John surtees CBE the only man to win world championships on 2 and 4 wheels has died aged 83

Derek Walcott, one of the world's greatest poets has died at the age of 87.

RIP.

The word 'Legend' is thrown around too easily these days, but for me, Chuck Berry will always be an absolute Legend. His place and his contribution to Rock History and his Influence can never be over-estimated. Certainly not enough room on here for me to do the great man justice in my admiration for him.

Just a couple of examples, Roll Over Beethoven and Johnny B Goode are just timeless works of genius and Chuck was such a clever lyricist too.

To many musicians, Rock 'n' Roll started with Chuck Berry.

John Lennon said that if Rock 'n' Roll had another name, it would be Chuck Berry.
Mick Jagger said Chuck Berry "lit up our teenage years, and blew life into our dreams of being musicians and performers".
Bruce Springsteen said he was "the greatest pure rock 'n' roll writer who ever lived".

Chuck, your music inspired so many wonderful artists that were loved by millions the world over and you will never be forgotten.

RIP Chuck Berry. Mr Rock 'n' Roll !!

That's a shame. Did more than anyone to bring about the peace process.

His work over the last two decades was outstanding. Being conciliatory with Ian Paisley of all people is a good illustration of how he was willing to compromise and talk. Something our current Government could learn from.

My point is, it was the 'work' he did during the 70's and 80's that meant he had to work so hard for peace during the 90's. As much of a bastard that he is, Ian Paisley does not have blood on his hands, McGuinness did.

One cannot ignore the work put in by McGuinness to help bring about the peace process, but his victims will never forget his actions during the troubles.
