The R.I.P. Thread

He wrote Manic Monday and Nothing Compares 2 U as well.

I always remember my brother telling me he was probably the greatest guitarist he'd ever seen live. I thought 'Prince? Nah that can't be right', and then I checked out some footage and it was like 'OK, that guy can play...'

Former wrestler Chyna, 45.

and porn star... she doesnt get the credit she deserves, the 1st female Royal Rumble entrant, the 1st female and only female intercontinental Champion. She may have been a troubled soul but 45 is no age at all.

2016 is officially the year of the Reaper.

Terry Wogan
David Bowie
Prince
Ronnie Corbett
Paul Daniels
Victoria Wood

All massive in my younger years and all gone, it's getting surreal now

He's right up there with Bowie, Lennon and co for me. Supremely talented.

How true, saw him live at Maine Road with my lad in the early 90's and he was up there with James Brown, Bowie and Dylan as a live performer. Purple Rain one of the all time classics.

Bloody hell Prince now as well?

Supremely talented guy. Apparently he wrote a song every day and had tons of material he never ever used.

Bloody hell! Worst year ever.

Around 1400 people die every day in the UK and over 18 million people have already died globally this year - some of them will be well known. There's nothing particularly surreal about it. Most likely you could go back to the first 4 months of any year in history and come up with a list of well known people who have died.

I blame facebook.

Yeah, the radio 4 show "more or less" on a Friday afternoon, discussed the amount of celebs dying last week.

Its not often I go OMG about certain deaths, last one was Rik Mayall he was one of my favourites growing up.

Nah, it's Sniffer's fault for starting this thread.

This is no doubt true. It's an age thing though. As we get older, more and more people who were significant when we were young will be popping off. I imagine it felt the same to our parents (and Frank) in the 70s and 80s when Hollywood greats were dying.

And when you hit your 70s and 80s, funerals are your main social activity if my parents are anything to go by.

That's exactly it. Your heroes growing up tend to be that little bit older, and as I gently coast through middle age, they are all hitting pension age either now or soon will be, so the mortality rate will be rising among them.
