Yep - lost an uncle this week as well over here at Paddy towers. Not much of that generation left in my family now, which is very disconcerting.

That's exactly it. Your heroes growing up tend to be that little bit older, and as I gently coast through middle age, they are all hitting pension age either now or soon will be, so the mortality rate will be rising among them.

This is what I was thinking (except the middle age bit, I'm not quite there yet) but still, 57 is no age to die.

Around 1400 people die every day in the UK and over 18 million people have already died globally this year - some of them will be well known. There's nothing particularly surreal about it. Most likely you could go back to the first 4 months of any year in history and come up with a list of well known people who have died.

I blame facebook.

Aye something like 2% of people dye of natural causes before they reach 70.
Suppose one time it was "I wondered whatever happened to ....?" and then a while later you find out they had died 2 years beforehand. Now with social media we all know straight away.

Nick Menza - drummer on four Megadeth albums has died of a heart attack while performing with his new band. Played on Rust In Peace, Countdown to Extinction, Youthanasia and Cryptic Writings. Absolutely superb drummer. Only bloody 51 as well.
