Think he's played that way for City at times this season hasn't he? Certainly plays a lot deeper for them than he has previously in his career and looks very much a complete midfielder now.

He has, another year or so and he'll be up there with the greatest CMs, it really suits his game.

Seen a few with him gone tbf, sad that it's easier for me to list the times I actually enjoyed watching England compared to not. The 4-1 win in Croatia under Capello and the 5-1 at home. 1-0 win over Spain in 2011 (may see that more favourably as I was there). 3-2 win against Sweden in Euro 2012. Beating Scotland 3-2 in 2013 (not the best game in terms of quality but it was enjoyable) and 3-1 the year after. Beating France 2-0 in 2015, and the 3-2 against Germany two years ago. So since 2008 that is... 8 games. 8 in 10 years, only three of which were competitive and none in the last two years. Nice one.

Otherwise, regardless of the result, I just come away feeling like it was worth my time watching.

Good, even if it might hinder us. I really like Sterling but if it makes him cut it diving out of his game, all the better. Just as annoying was it looked like he had a half decent chance to connect a shot with it on the first touch as well but choose not to for the dive instead (but I was only watching on my phone on a train so can't be sure)
