The Official FIFA World Cup 2022 Megathread

It's a pen. Check the laws out, if the foul continues into the area then it's a pen. It's pretty clear it continued into the area
Not sure it did continue into the area, the contact that brought him down was outside imv and it was just Kanes momentum which carried him inside.
Anyway it's done now, most of us think we played well, at least matched France and were unlucky.

I don't think too many England fans would care. England fans still wave Union flags and sing "Rule Britannia" at matches, despite not representing the whole Union and not being Britannia. A lot of English people don't appreciate the difference at all. During Covid, for example, there were a number of reports on Welsh news about English tourists (from as close as the West Midlands) getting stopped by police in Wales for gathering on Welsh beaches and the tourists' responses were things like, "but Wales and England are all the same place" or "but Wales is in England".

And it's because of attitudes like that that the Welsh FA would never want to join a UK-wide association as the identity of the smaller nations would become lost.

(And we'd all have to sing GSTK, which even English people agree is the worst anthem ever. Worse even than Australia's).

Not sure I’d agree with that at all, most England fans would want to stay as England. Majority of flags at games are St George’s crosses.
Pretty sure if you vetted England fans on this topic majority would prefer to keep their identity as England.
It’s another myth that England fans aren’t as passionate about England as Scottish or Welsh people are about their own nation.
If it was the case Wembley would be half empty in qualifying etc.
Not sure how a few people breaching Covid laws correlates across.
Assuming that England fans can’t work out the difference between England and Wales is very wide of the mark.
Only thing I’ll agree on is GSTK for England games. Much prefer Jerusalem or LOHAG

The constant stream of short, sharp peeps did my head in too. Needs a single sharp blast

England flags went from predominantly the Union flag to the flag of St George at some point in the 90s

Sorry that’s garbage if he was looking for the foul and penalty he would have ensured he was clearly in the area and gone down then not on the edge leaving it to chance.

What's he got, Bernards watch? No one can make decisions like that in a millisecond.

My point is that England fans would still go to games, it would still be their team, and it wouldn't make much difference. If anything, they'd probably still call the team "England" and still sing all their usual songs. That's what the other home nations fear.

To a lot of English people, the UK is England and England is the UK.

That's utter rubbish.

You are literally the only person that isn't French that thinks that

Your hate of Kane is blindsiding your football judgement.

Plausible, my opinion is definitely affected by his constant cheating. Like the boy who cried wolf.

What's he got, Bernards watch? No one can make decisions like that in a millisecond.

So he’s not got enough time to think where to fall but he’s definitely got enough time to think about initiating contact from a player who’s behind him?

Who are these people? If you’re seriously telling me that the majority of English people can’t fathom the difference between the 4 nations I think you’re vastly wide of the mark.
I think the major confusion comes from people outside the UK.

Generally, that's a pre determined action isn't it. It's why people often continue to go down when a defender has pulled their leg back and there's no contact.

So you're all desperately claiming that England were the better side??? Remind me again how many clear chances and goals they created from open play again compared to France?

Don't get me wrong, there wasn't a huge difference between the two sides, but why let reality get in the way?
