The Official FIFA World Cup 2022 Megathread

Tough watch, USA played for a draw, compact and tight well organised.

They cannot play like that in the knockouts it's banking on Pens it just won't work. They have some excellent players.

Southgate got it wrong, Foden should have come on for Mount, Henderson came on to take a draw, every interview he has said don't care how or what we have to get out the group, that was the prime objective barring a disaster against a Shit Welsh team he has done it.

I am gutted Wales did not get the win, my bar depends on Brits, we had a few in at 11 for Wales, rammed for England
USA certainly didn't pay for the draw.

We did.

Does he? I haven't seen him in a city shirt yet.

We just leave him in the middle of the Atlantic now, or give him to Canada

Send him to some island off Alaska. Big bears and volcanoes plus the cast of deadliest catch to deal with

That’s not really correct either. It was a total failure of ambition by England.

True I suppose. I’m trying to think of a moment where England looked like scoring and I am coming up empty

USA werent wasting anytime at all. If anything were getting the ball in play quicker than average. That isn’t the behaviour of a team playing for a draw.

We on the other hand were in no rush. Which clearly shows what had been said to the players before the game. Which then even if you want to win translates into a safe unadventurous performance. Which doesn’t win games at this level.

They didnt
Yes they did, as soon as we got the ball, camped in 30 yards. When they got the ball attacked with 3/4 players. You saw their manager telling players to hold position.
We probably had 2 half decent chances, they had the same, Pulisic had a fantastic shot off the bar. Be interesting to see the average positions and stats.

Thought it was 2 teams more intent on not losing than going to win, draw was much better for us, given we have 4 points. Going to be tough for the USA, they are going to have to commit more men forward they need to beat Iran.

Southgate has looked at the draw and fancies second in the group to avoid France in the QF

Last night reinforced my view that as soon as an opponent shows any sign of ambition Southgate’s mentality is to retreat and we all know where that leads. Our best players are the attacking ones and we need to take the brakes off and get them causing opponents problems. It’s no use beating the likes of Iran and Panama if you then wave a white flag the moment you play a better team. I think we’re a couple of players short of a team that could genuinely go on to win it but I’d rather see us try than be submissive and accept the almost inevitable quarter final defeat that the current approach will result in.

Hitzlsperger tells it like it is.....we play for another draw against Wales and we'll be out next round because you can't just switch gears and go from first to fifth in the knockout stages, you have to built some momentum.
