Yes obviously penalty miss etc, no doubt some genuises will be very creative with songs about that for the next few months, but obvious disappointment aside I don't see much to get on them about. If anything a lot of them should be proud - Rashford and Saka in particular had absolute dog's abuse after the Euros and were two of our best players here.

That said - I don't understand taking Saka and Foden off. I just don't. If they were tired I'd love to know why, you don't see Mbappe coming off. If it was tactical then it's just bonkers, Mount and Sterling are not on the same level (I am aware Mount won the 2nd pen). Feels like it took away a lot of our attacking threat.

Saka, Foden, Bellingham is a very strong 3 to build around. Thought Rice did very well tonight too. Need to strengthen the defence a bit and probably need a new face for that 3rd CM spot (don't rate Phillips personally) but otherwise we're in good shape.

Dunno about all that. Takes some doing to make Foden disappear, and for all of England’s good play, Foden was horribly miscast today. Could have made a difference, wasn’t really allowed to.

Definitely a case of “careful what you wish for”. There’s way worse out there than Southgate, IMO.

Really disappointing to lose and especially in that fashion but there are positives to take. Southgate didn't hide with the tactics and go with the extra defender, we went toe-to-toe with what is probably the best international side in the world (and the world champions) and were arguably the better side. Think we showed today we're one of the top international teams at least.

He's not popular on here but I do feel really bad for Kane. Media and people on social media can be vile and he'll get loads of abuse now, that sort of miss must stay with you forever.

Southgate deserves to stay if that is what he wants, think a lot of people forget how bad it was both on and off the pitch before him.
