The Official FIFA World Cup 2022 Megathread

Mbappe is ridiculous.

9 World Cup goals by the age of 23. He’s already won one World Cup and will leave both Messi and Ronaldo behind as the GOAT before long.

He's one of the best finishers in the world, if he can't just score in the corner then he shouldn't be taking penalties in the first place. Three penalties for him in the tournament and he's missed two of them because he tries to be clever instead of just scoring.

Pass it into the top corner and no keeper is ever saving it. Doesn't even have to be blasted.

The accuracy of his shooting is incredible. Hopefully Southgate will set up the team accepting he may well score so we need to score more, assuming we get past Senegal.

If I'd scored 2 goals in a World Cup game and they I got benched for the next one, I'd be fucking fuming!

I reserve the right to change my mind, but that's the team I'd have picked

If we get through tonight and Maguire continues to play his leaden footed centre back cum No. 10 role cum he receives every cross from corners and free kicks then France will be laughing.

I don't think he's got the outright talent of the other two but he'll probably achieve more unless something goes very wrong for him.

Got to feel for Rashford, but I'm not devastated by the change tbh. And it's great to have some genuine depth and threat off the bench. I love the idea of foden as the advanced midfielder in a 433 but that's never going to be an option for Southgate until we're chasing a game

Ah, yes, Senegal are "direct, athletic, and they have pace".

Such lazy, lazy shite.

I'd agree if it was Cameroon they were talking about but Senegal are quite direct and utilise their athleticism to play fast counter attacking football.

Fucking hell that piece on Foden just gave me goosebumps. He's such a special footballer, and he seems like a top pro, mature head on his shoulders and a proper grafter.

Kane throwing himself to the floor like he does for spurs. Does my head in.

Definitely a tactic to press both England centre halves heavily on transition. Could be a good one as both will try and play out.
