The Official Euro 2016 Megathread

Before Iceland equalised I'm sure it wasn't.

The team would have known full well the ramifications of losing, Rooney especially will have sensed that his legacy was slowly being flushed down the toilet as the game wore on.
They may not have done. I've read that an Iceland player in the tunnel at half time overheard Harry Kane asking the ref if we were out if we lost the game. In the same article, Joe Hart was bumbling about us needing to play better against france.

How in the world does Kane not know that? It's almost as bad as Pennant worrying about our participation in the Euro 2018 competition now we've "decided" to leave the EU...

It seems almost certain that Gareth Southgate will be appointed as interim manager, but there is talk of Arsene Wenger as a possible long term appointment. Would he leave Arsenal for England?

He won't break a contract, but his current Arsenal deal expires in 2017. Southgate for a year to get Wenger looks a good trade off to me.

:icon_lol:

Assume that's a joke.

Do you feel better after yesterdays press conference? Do you now feel like your questions have been answered?

Roy was an embarrassment during the press conference. He had plenty to say and didn't say it. It is probably the only time I've thought the man behaved like a childish prick.

I'd agree with that. It also gives Wenger time to put his own coaching staff in place before he officially becomes manager so the transistion isn't as stark.

Wenger? Yes please - absolutely no problems with Southgate holding the reigns until he's available if so. That'd be a far, far better appointment than I could ever think of TBH. Especially when faced with the possibility of a Hoddle/Redknapp 'dream team' #scromit

To be perfectly honest, I'm already over Monday night. I was fucking livid at the time, I was in a grump yesterday but it's done, it's gone, we're out, boo hoo. I don't much care what Hodgson had to say, I don't really think there was much TO say. And I don't want to hear what the players thought either. The tournament goes on and I'm looking forward to the quarter finals starting tomorrow night. The tournament isn't over because we're out, although I'm sure both the BBC and ITV will want to reflect on our exit before, during and after the games between teams who are still in it when they should be concentrating on the football that's still to play.

Oh and my favourite comment so far this tournament came courtesy of my 7 year old son last night:

"I think we should support Wales now, dad. After all - most of their players would have rather played for England anyway because they're English so they've done well to get further than England."

That's my boy. :icon_lol:

The England team arguably has a mentality problem. Perhaps Wenger is not the ideal choice in that regard?

Wenger compared to other names being thrown around is just an absolute no-brainer.

Indeed. It's a bit like going into the Great Western and settling for a pint of Carling when there is Bathams on tap....

My issue was him not answering questions from the media which he has done now, you can never guarantee you'll be happy what you hear at least he did the conference.

Because he didn't want to do it so close after the failure and his resignation.

He knows, after quitting he had to do a Press Conference, as that is the procedure. He wanted to do it when he got back to England, had a few days to get him self sorted. The Press asked the FA if it was happening, they asked Roy who said no. Press asked again, same result and on the third request the FA pushed Roy out. I guess the press wanted to see a broken man and to see if he would stab anyone in the back. Never going to happen was it, instead you get a man who isn't prepared or ready. If the Press had accepted the first rejection and waited until he got back to the UK the Press Conference would have been a little different in terms of his answers (he certainly wouldn't have blamed the players though)

So there we go. Either way he couldn't win - so he may as well have not bothered.

That's the job though, it's not like this is new to him he failed spectacularly at the World Cup so he should really have been ready for this, as hard as it would be.

Wenger, the perennial bottler and proponent of tippy tappy shite. Perfect fit for England then.

Wenger has you know won rather a lot of titles in his time as well. You sound like Adrian Durham with that stance!

bit different this time as he had ended/lost his job and just been on the end of a defeat that should never be happening. Nothing wrong with wanting a bit of time to get your head in order.

Yes I do concede that. If the FA had said Roy will give a full press conference on Friday then there would be nowhere for anybody to go.
