The Official Euro 2016 Megathread

This was the press being $#@!s again for me. He's gone. No need to drag him through the $#@! to try and get some $#@!y headline. That wasn't "for the fans" in any shape or form. It was for the $#@!ing headline tomorrow.

English press are a $#@!ing disgrace.

Don't agree with this how else is suppose to communicate with the fans if had refused to do the press conference he'd have been slaughtered even more. Don't think any of the questions put to him were unreasonable either.

I don't understand the rankings, and probably never will. I wonder where Iceland will be ranked after their magnificent efforts in the current European Campionships?

Because I think it was utterly pointless apart from giving the press something to feed on.

Were I Hodgson, I would have told them I wasn't doing it as well.

I would imagine he was expected to speak to the media prior to the team heading home. That is the usual precedure.

It was the FA that called the conference, as a fan if your side has lost in that manner one of the things you want to hear afterwards is the thoughts of the coach that selected the side. It's the very least he could do for the many fans that paid thousands to watch the side.
England are also obliged like every other team to speak to the media after a game otherwise they'll be fined.

Martin Glenn has questioned our ability to cope with high pressure games. With the greatest of respect to Iceland, was this game considered high pressure?

Knockout football always going to be pressure even more so when your considered strong favourites in that game.

He spoke with the media last night. I don't see why the fans have this "right". Something that media like to stoke up when they want to kick a manager.

He read a statement that was all didn't answer any questions and being England manager comes the scrutiny from the media and the paying public.
It's the decent thing to do it now puts a lot to bed and saves him a hell of a lot of aggro had he not attended.

Before Iceland equalised I'm sure it wasn't.

The team would have known full well the ramifications of losing, Rooney especially will have sensed that his legacy was slowly being flushed down the toilet as the game wore on.

You were wrong though, so I don't understand your point?

Sorry- my point was that the rankings are a farce and that 50% of those ranked higher would not go through.Northern Ireland Switzerland Spain and England were all ranked higher than their opponent and all lost. I just chose the wrong 50 % !

and on the subject of Xenophobia the Welsh team are getting a bit of stick for the celebrations when England lost. The anyone but England mentality? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36652412
Personally I support England but cheer all the home Nations and Ireland on when they are playing other countries so I have never understood any attitude that is " anyone but England"

That Hodgson press conference was painful. He should have not bothered turning up rather than coming out with that passive aggressive crap.

I don't have a problem with them celebrating our defeat. It's pointless to pretend that all the other Home Nations don't have an intense dislike of the English at least on the sporting field and for many beyond that. They should have the honesty to admit that is exactly what it was though rather than the bollocks that Gunter has come out with.

hardly a farce, just inevitably iffy given how few competitive matches are played between teams and the period over which they base the ranks. but as they're used so rarely does it matter that much?

if the rankings were based on teams' ability to perform slapstick comedy rather than on historic football results, that would make it a farce :)

or prepared and read a statement rather than bumbling through it. though he'd have been criticised for taking no questions no doubt.

Do you feel better after yesterdays press conference? Do you now feel like your questions have been answered?

It seems almost certain that Gareth Southgate will be appointed as interim manager, but there is talk of Arsene Wenger as a possible long term appointment. Would he leave Arsenal for England?
