The NFL Thread

Yeah last season they had a game on every day of the week apart from Tuesday I think. So it's inevitable at some point what with the NFL's never ending quest for expansion and yet another game week on top of that.

College football is HUGE in the US, and I know several people who would rather watch that than NFL.
Playoff time is fine, but September-November would be very risky.

I mean, it’s a straight up dumb question with no side. So I guess the main reason i hear is tha Saturday is college football day.

College football is the only sport here that has the same “in the blood” mentality as English football. I mean, shit, half the teams in the SEC (Southeastern Conference) sell out every week with 80,000+. Alabama’s stadium seats just over 100,000 and there is never an empty seat at kickoff.

There really is nothing else like it here in terms of the passion CFB elicits.

2005 was a different time! This was pre-Dez Bryant and that debacle, and frankly it’s been a net negative IMO. Used to be that the offensive player got the benefit of the doubt much more often. “Complete the process” wasn’t even a twinkle in a referee’s eye.

The way they ruled in the end was that he had control with the ball in his hands and pressed against Faulk’s back, then down at (I think) the 3 yard line when his helmet touched. So once he was down, the little flub at the end where he absolutely loses control becomes irrelevant.

That was on 4th and 13 just before halftime, and Southern Miss were in control. It would have been an awful loss, especially at home. Prothro rescued some confidence with that catch, and we went on to win comfortably. I was 14 and couldn’t have been more obsessed. When Tyrone broke his leg just a couple of weeks later (truly grotesque; I wouldn’t recommend searching for it, but it’s easily found), I didn’t recover for a month at least. Ended his career.

Ah, memories.

Hostile is supposed to be an insult? In seriousness the mentality of the City to its sports is very intense, particularly the Eagles and Phillies. If you were having a dig, obnoxious would be a better word than hostile. I'd say the mentality is closer to UK football than appears typical and that comes with the positives and negatives. I wish Wolves fans had adopted some Philly energy towards Shi

I wouldn't have Philly at the top there, were I trying to make a serious list. They may be top in terms of sheer vitriol, but by and large they direct said vitriol inward rather than outward. Which is pretty entertaining to me!

Raiders fans are a law unto themselves, but otherwise the teams at the top are those that have regularly won or expect to win the SB, and those at the bottom have never won f.a. 😉😉

I think the descriptions of Cowboys, Patriots, Chiefs, and Jets fans is pretty much dead on.

And Bills fans, of course... 😜

Of the 10 #1 seeds since 2020, when the first round bye was reduced to #1 seed only:
1 only #1 seed has won the Superbowl
4 have lost the superbowl
2 have lost in the Championship game
3 have lost in the Divisional round.

So maybe being top seed is not that big of a deal, perhaps momentum is more important (and the Texans are on a 10 game win streak).

Not a good start for the Bills. But massive escape to give up just three.
