The NFL Thread

Both of the Detroit two off the board.

But yep the appointments of defensive head coaches haven't gone well recently anywhere else, apart from Dan Quinn in Washington. Plenty of credit for that has to go to Kliff Kingsbury and the way he's got the best out of Jayden Daniels though.

Yep and he was a seasoned guy so knew how to run a team rather than just being thrown in. It's also why I think Vrabel isn't a given, putting a lot on McDermott with Maye. Brady made all ships rise, he's not shown anything without him

Fuck, I really wanted Glenn in New Orleans.

Phoebe Schecter predicts a Commanders v Bills superbowl.

That is me and dire fucked then...

Did she say it whilst giggling manically? Her and Jason Bell as a twosome are borderline unwatchable.

I think she's right though, Hurts is going to play, but banged up, that'll have an impact on the running game and the passing one is in the ICU. The defense is too good to give up 40 points like Detroit did, but I think they'd have to keep it below 20 to win. If you put any of the other 3 QBs left on the Eagles team they'd win the NFC Championship game and the SB by 2 scores.

The Bills are a better side than KC, logic says they win, but all metrics say that KC should have lost a lot of games this season and didn't. I think they will this one. Who I want to win the second game depends on who wins the first.

I can still see the Chiefs turning over the Bills if McDermott is as conservative as he was against the Ravens. If he lets Josh Allen loose then I think they win.

For both games you can make good arguments for all four teams really, so no particular result would come as a shock.

It’s like he took it personally when people started saying that Tepper is a worse owner than him.

Given Brady was part of the recruitment then Pete Carroll seems a very uninspiring choice for the Raiders

I love that hire tbh. I’ve got a lot of time for Carroll.

Meanwhile, the Bucs’ OC is leaving for Jacksonville now that they’ve sacked Trent Baalke.

Well the first choice was presumably Johnson but he went elsewhere. Personally I am fairly happy with it although it's all contingent on getting an QB. I was one of the people that would have been happy with Pierce getting more time as felt he got a raw deal. No QB, no RB, division that ended up with 3 playoff teams. Defence was solid mostly and improving still.

The QB is going to be Wilson if rumours are to be believed.

Zach or Russell? 😉

The latter fell out massively with Carroll in Seattle, so can't see that bing anything less than a disaster than playing the former would be.

Coen also confirmed as Jags HC. Interesting (albeit unsurprising) to hear that the announcement was delayed due to them having to interview another guy to satisfy the Rooney rule, despite them already having made a decision.

And Bobby Slowik pays the price for the Stroud slump in Texas as he's fired as their OC.

I hadn't heard that, a little surprising but potentially a very positive move.
12 months ago Slowik was being talked of as a future HC, but his play calling has been uninspiring this season. Ryans might also be in the hot seat if there is no improvement next season.

Yeah hopefully this is just lazy linking. As mentioned by Jack the Carroll/Russ relationship didn't end well, seemed Carroll was keen for him to go.

My view would be they are currently at 6 and need to be aggressive to trade into a key QB spot. They have loads of cap room and so can be aggressive there and hopefully won't be as low in the draft next year regardless, so it's easier to trade from 6 to the top 3, than it would be say 10 or higher.

I don't know much about college football, but it's supposed be a poor QB class. The number 3 last year Maye, would be rated number 1 this if the evaluators are to be believed. There's only 2 towards the top of the mock drafts and the top 3 all need one, so to trade up then the Raiders would either have to offer an ott bounty or the other team not rate the player involved. From that perspective it's a shame NE won their last game as they'd have been shopping the pick in all likelihood. There's always one that comes up over the combine period onwards but in more recent years that's been the Zach Wilson, Trey Lance small school great traits types which have been busts, but at the moment there's only 2 being mocked for the entire first round.

I can't comment on the player himself, but I'd be looking to avoid the circus that comes with Sanders, he'd have to be one hell of a talent to make that worthwhile
