The NFL Thread

What Washington really needs is to improve the offensive line.

People talk about QB being the most important position in sports, but I vehemently disagree. Trent fucking Dilfer won a Super Bowl. The OL as a unit is the most important "position" in sports. Or, at least in American football.

Vikings too high. No cap space, ageing defence, too many key players they have to make a decision on and can't afford to re-sign them all. I honestly think there's a case to be made for trading the likes of Cook and Diggs and blowing it all up and try to find a franchise QB. Last one they had for any prolonged period was in the 70's which is just mental.

Daunte Culpepper, surely?

Like it or not, Cousins is the Vikings franchise QB. Can't see that changing anytime soon.

He may not be Patrick Mahomes, but he isn't the worst in the league either.

He's $31m against the cap next season, but that's his last, so he isn't going anywhere yet but it doesn't stop them from drafting his 2021 replacement. 5 QBs are predicted to have first round talent in the first round, the problem for the Vikings is there are a lot of QB needy teams picking before 25. Bengals, Dolphins and Chargers are all certainties, I wouldn't rule out the Bucs or Raiders either. More likely they'll look for a developmental guy late in Day 2 or on Day 3 I'd have thought

Yep, last year of his contract. "He's not Mahomes but he's not the worst in the league" is absolutely correct but the Vikings have settled for mediocrity for too long now. I think times are changing and unless you have an elite O line your QB needs some mobility at least, not asking for Lemar Jackson, just someone who can escape pressure and make plays.

I also don't think they should be giving a big contract to Cook, too many other positions need addressing and as good as he is you can find good running backs for not a lot.

You need an elite O line regardless.

According to PFF the Chiefs O-Line were ranked 16th this season, you can win if it's serviceable by being creative with play calling and a QB that can escape pressure.

You can win with an average O Line if you have a generational talent at QB. Otherwise, it's a requirement for success, full stop.

The Chiefs O Line is also skewed statistically because they just don't run the ball the same way almost every other team does.

Plays offs are going to 7 sides per conference with just the number 1 seed getting the bye. 17th game still under discussion. I like the first idea, but not the second. Removing a pre season game who starters don't or barely play in for another game doesn't make sense to me, teams are banged up after 16 as it is.

I don't think it's confirmed yet. NFLPA (players association) can still vote against it.

The media over here don't seem to think much of the proposal.

Always silly rumours during the off-season, but this one seems plausible:

Everyone seems to think Brady will still be a Pat next season but perhaps he won't be. Belichick is ruthless, knows better than anyone how good Brady still is (or isn't), and as a control freak he won't enjoy Brady complaining about a lack of wide receivers.

Agreed by the NFLPA today so 17 game season and extra wildcard teams from this season.
