The Music Thread Strikes Back

Playing Jordan Rakei over and over at the moment. Incredibly talented man who I'm gutted to have missed at Glastonbury.

He was on Gilles Peterson's show on Friday, first time I had heard him, pretty good, lovely guitar chords

I was given the new mogwai album for my birthday. Planning a listen this weekend. Looking forward to it!

How were PSB live? Off to see them at the end of the month, not as keen on Every Valley as the 2 prior albums, though it still has a few great tunes on (They gave me a lamp!)

PSB were very good, though it was a short festival set. They were a bit more "muscular" than I was expecting. I'd like to see a proper indoors gig.

Am I in a parallel universe?

Just seen a quote about Brexit from Liam Gallagher of all people which I actually agreed with. Not only that but his new album is actually good and worth a listen.

Gomez are playing a 20th Anniversary of Bring It On gig at the Royal Albert Hall next year.

I am so there dude!

Still think liquid skin & the mechismo ep are better...

Anyhoo, off to see the marvellous Public Service Broadcasting this evening...

Downside is will miss underworld live streaming their iceland gig. Hopefully someone somewhere in internetland will work out how to rip from facebook and happiness will ensue!

Nick Knowles has seen fit to release an album. This country.

Anyway, the lead single is more Brent than Brent. He's even got a similar set up for the video to the Brentmeister General's effort for If You Don't Know Me By Now.

Got an email from Xtra Mile Recordings yesterday promoting Frank Turner's new release 'Songbook' which, apparently, is a re-imagining of several of his previous songs, plus one new one. I mean, what the actual shitting bastard floppy-eared fuck is that? It's a step closer to a Christmas album or 'A Tale of two Franks: Frank Turner sings his songs in the style of Frank Sinatra'. Is he taking the piss? Did I wake up on April 1st? Even though I loved him* a few years back, I'd rather be teabagged by a crepuscular camel's leathery scrotum than entertain a notion sufficient to induce hypoxia, which this absolutely is.

* = Right up until his first Wembley show, where I endured Billy Bragg and, I think, Beans on Toast. The highlight being Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip, as it became painfully obvious that the headliner wasn't at the level for the venue. And then there's the FTHC "brand", which seems to go against all notion of anti-establishmentarianism/anti-corporate dogma.

Not buying that one then Stoo?

Its just a lazy way for his record label to make some extra ££££ while he is sat with his feet up. Easy money innit

It's unlikely to make my Christmas list to be honest. And I really don't want to dislike him or say he's (now) trite but whereas I once pre-ordered his output I now actively avoid it.

i now need to listen to something violent to get over that nick knowles video
