The Music Thread Strikes Back

That's ace. Ernie Wise on a Sony brick phone.

There he is. The phone doesn't look especially mobile and I'm not sure why he's dressed like that (unless that's how he generally dressed off stage, my Ernie Wise knowledge is thinner than my banks of facts about Reg Varney)

He used to live in a house next to the graveyard in Budleigh Salterton Devon after retirement. Not sure if he moved next door on expiry.

Added to the database.

This will all come in handy one day. You'll see.

Ernie Wise was the first person to make a mobile phone call in the UK. I don't know what mind-altering substances executives were on in the 70s and 80s.

i've seen the reg varney one asked as a quiz question quite a few times - i'm sure on tv shows too. so definitely handy to quizzers.

Anyhoo, off to see the marvellous Public Service Broadcasting this evening...

Downside is will miss underworld live streaming their iceland gig. Hopefully someone somewhere in internetland will work out how to rip from facebook and happiness will ensue!

PSB were ace. Revamped the live show a lot. Liked how they jammed a few of their older numbers. Bizarre to hear J Willgoose esq talk - he never did at the prior 2 shows I was at.

Really disappointed to not hear Turn No More ( my 2nd fave off the album) and Night Mail off their first (epic track). Still, you can't please everyone. Got a bit emotional during They Gave Me A Lamp - brilliant song about the miners wives politicising themselves. Some of the footage shown at this time highlights how narrow minded it is of some people to retain a sexist/chauvinistic view of the world.

They've also announced a show in manchester on 1 may.

Edit, there's a mini tour - rock city is the closest to here I believe. Tickets on sale friday:

Yeah, saw that. Nottingham is an arse to get to from what I remember so gonna stick with the Royal Albert Hall gig I reckon.

Nottingham is piss to get into from the South now they've opened the new road up past the power station. Just awful for getting around by car when you get to the city centre.

Not if you jump on the tram park and ride from the said new road.

One day to go before Metallica again! Very excited.

Also only ten days until my Master of Puppets remastered box set of goodies arrives, which is going to be AWESOME.

As an aside to the above, I have just discovered what Whiplash tickets give me. There is a room where you go for your buffet etc etc and there are amps set up with one of James' guitars, one of Kirk's, and one of Rob's basses, and you are allowed to just settle down and kick out some tunes. OHMYGOD. If they have EET FUK there I may explode with tumescent excitement. *desperately revising how to play Disposable Heroes upside down on a right handed guitar*

I dare you to go in there and play Stairway.
