The Music Thread Strikes Back

This morning I have mostly been enjoying the lovely melancholy tones of King Creosote.

there's a lot to get through!

new protomartyr, EMA and a couple others for me.

also off to see nick cave this eve.

Ooh, well jel! The reviews of this tour have been fairly amazing.

On that note, the National were predictably awesome but omitted Mr November on the night we saw them which was a shame.

i think the last couple of times i saw the National they used to do a slowed down version of Mr N so wasn't quite the same anyway. good when they do it properly

i sort of reach an expiration date for my interest in most bands. for the Nat i've got Alligator - HV and nothing else. couldn't see how they were going to anything particularly different.

Yeah, live they're pretty much the same each time. I've only seen them do full-on versions of MN.

The new album is a bit of a departure, actually. More electronic and experimental. I think it's their best since Boxer. Probably not different enough to entice someone with your short attention span back though.:icon_wink:

I'm currently reading Peter Hook's book about Joy Division so have played Unknown Pleasures a LOT recently.

Its such a magnificent album. I much prefer JD to New Order.

Last night I took the good lady to see Shame Filan at the Nottingham Royal Concert Hall. No, I haven't changed my musical tastes...She literally loves him and I took her as an anniversary treat. And while he music is not particularly to my liking I must admit he put on a very good show.

Downside - Trying to park in Nottingham...

Taking a car anywhere near Nottingham is a right game, pretty much the worst place I've ever driven around.

As I found out. And with the good lady not being very mobile it made things more difficult. At least we got there in plenty of time as I had been warned of the joys of parking in Nottingham.

My satnav on the Insignia I used to have hated Nottingham. Got to a certain point and it went mental and just wanted to go in a circle

Mark & lard on Radio 1 vintage right now :)

Saw it earlier, & intended to post it here in case you were planning getting tickets...

You should treat yourself mate :)

Just waiting to see how much it is. At least I've seen him before so it won't be a total disaster if I'm priced out of going!!

New album out by the National today. On first listen it's probably their best since Boxer. Less restrained and more inventive and still with the best drums in "pop" music.

New Mogwai album is also pretty awesome.

Off to see Public Service Broadcasting tomorrow. First gig in a while so really looking forward to it.

I was given the new mogwai album for my birthday. Planning a listen this weekend. Looking forward to it!

How were PSB live? Off to see them at the end of the month, not as keen on Every Valley as the 2 prior albums, though it still has a few great tunes on (They gave me a lamp!)

Caved in and put mogwai's newie on last night. It's really good. Liked it a lot. Indeed listened to it twice.
