The Music Thread Strikes Back

Say it every year, but this is 5 minutes from my house. We get tickets on the buy-back scheme for £80 per person (considering it's a three day festival, that's a brilliant price). It's a fantastic little festival, very family friendly, great safe atmosphere, and over the last few years they've really cranked up the level of band bookings. Personally, as we live so close, we get to experience everything that a festival would offer, but with the added bonus of being able to go home for a shower and fry up in the mornings.

This years line up (above) is brilliant. Very much looking forward to seeing The Libertines. Personally I'm a big fan of The Vaccines and The Wombats will be worth watching. There's some quality bands in there lower down the bill too - and with more to be released.

We went to this a few years ago when they didn't have quite so many big names on the bill. Great little festival. Surprised to see British Sea Power so low down on the bill. They're nearly the same size font as Cabbage:icon_biggrin:

a bit of midlands rep in there too. yak are from wolves aren't they? superfood from brum i think.

jagwar ma, tigercub and crows should be good. i've seen tigercub a few times now.

Foo Fighters playing a 700 capacity venue in Frome, Somerset tonight probably to announce their Glastonbury appearance this year.

Festival number 6 has a cracking line up this year. If I had some cash, or am able to sell a kidney I may explore further.

Came across this on the guardian:

1997 was a great year for albums. I have 5 of those listed. LAGWIFAS is amazing still.

Yeah, it was a good year. All of these still get a fairly regular listen:

Foo Fighters – The Colour and the Shape
Spiritualized – Ladies and Gentlemen, We Are Floating in Space
Blur – Blur
Pavement – Brighten the Corners
The Dandy Warhols – The Dandy Warhols Come Down
Grandaddy – Under the Western Freeway
Elliott Smith – Either/Or
Teenage Fanclub – Songs from Northern Britain
Cornershop – When I Was Born for the 7th time

Sleater Kinney's Dig Me Out. Probably their best album and one of my favourite albums of all time. It is another one of those band 'break up' albums (Corin & Carrie had broken up between that album and the previous one) that seems to produce great music.

Hmmmm

I own no albums on that list whatsoever. Squeeze probably has the Foos one somewhere. Apart from that I can't imagine a scenario where I would want to listen to a single one of them.

The Foo's album is the only one of theirs I really like. The rest have to much 'meh' on them.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks Foo Fighters are meh

I heard Machin was a big fan of theirs too. If there was ever a gig that had both Foo Fighters and Olly Murs on the bill he'd be first in line for tickets.

Foo's are alright. I could make some form of Greatest Hits album that I'd be happy listening to, but their albums are packed with a lot of filler. Sonic Highways was absolute bilge though in its entirety.

Just seen this, yeah, Foo Fighters are hugely overrated IMO :D

Anyway, it's 1994 day on 6Music today. I imagine a lot of posters on here are of the perfect age to make it very enjoyable listening indeed - http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/1GbHxhWTvtQ1rGNq0mxgWLh/12-albums-that-define-1994

Some cracking albums in 1994...The Holy Bible, The Downward Spiral, Vitalogy, Live Through This, Weezer, Troublegum, Dookie, Definitely Maybe, Monster, Purple, American Thighs, Smash...yep, it was a good year!

Yeah I missed Crooked Rain off there. Range Life & Gold Soundz are ace!

TBF, I could compile a list of brilliant albums from most years in the 90's.
