The Music Thread Strikes Back

Going to see James Friday. Excited.
Jack Savoretti is in support apparently. Any good?

The James gig is tonight!

In other news, the fratellis have announced a tour. Didn't someone off here support them once? :icon_wink:

The Divine Comedy have also announced a tour. Sure there's a few on here who are fans.

Fratellis tour is them playing the Costello Music album I think.

Their last 2 albums were very good (We Need Medicine & Eyes Wide, Tongue Tied I think!)

Love the Divine Comedy, so looking forward to the new album.

Madness also have a new album coming out this year. Really really like the stuff they have done over the last few years.

Also delighted my fave Irish Band - The Blizzards - Have reformed and some new music is being made. Hoping they tour next year, which will probably mean a trip to Ireland to watch them,

,
Now this excites me. Have to say that live, madness are awesome. In smaller venues, they're absolutely brilliant.
You may think of them as the "nutty boys", but by god they are also exceptional musicians.
Saw them for the first time a few years ago at the civic (december, norton folgate tour) and it was the best gig I'd been to in some time.

Only been to one Madness gig. NEC when they had released Wonderful. Utterly brilliant.

New album is being toured later in the year. They are very active these days. Got a mini festival they are hosting in August (Clapham I think) and every November they do a Madhead weekender at Butlins Minehead.

Norton Folgate was an excellent album. I grew up with Madness in the 80s (well, I listened to their music a lot - they didn't live with us). I don't think they really get the credit they deserve.

They don't. Phenomenal live band. Guarantee that if you go see them, you'll have a great time.

James gig was great. They came on and played 5 tracks off the new album from the start. I love that they do this focus on the new stuff - I want to hear stuff I haven't heard before, not the same tired old cliches.

Twitter appears to have gone off on one about them not playing laid. A year or 2 ago it was them not playing sit down (they didn't play that either). If you're going to a gig to hear only 1 song, then you're not doing enough with your life. I love not knowing what's coming up, and what they'll play. A band with 14 albums to choose from should have the ability to have a varied set list (They played What For!), and with a catalogue as strong as theirs, then there is plenty of scope to hear a lot of good tunes.

Reminds me of Glastonbury when after Bruce Springsteen played 2 1/2 hours and then didn't play "Born In The USA" in his encore, a portion of the crowd boo'd.

I saw The La's at Glastonbury. The 3rd or 4th song was There She Goes. Afterwards, I reckon about 30% of the crowd stayed for the rest of the set!

Also a good time to post this.

I suppose it depends on the song and the set. I don't think the Goo Goo Dolls perform Iris anymore but when I saw the Waterboys at Glastonbury they fitted Whole of the Moon in seamlessly with the rest and virtually everyone stayed & enjoyed the remainder of the set.

And the stage of course. The La's were on The Other Stage. Had they been on a smaller, more intimate stage, the audience tend to be far more respectful.

Anyone heard any of the Minor Victories stuff by the way?

I've ordered the album, though not completely sure it's exactly what i'll like. I put a track on here somewhere - the one with the cats fighting. it has james graham of the Sad on support vocals.

just done a summer cd picking up stuff I missed from last year and some early 2016. prepped for mate's birthday. and when I say 'summer', I don't mean seasonal or happy, I mean generally miserable as fuck, just how I like it.

Yeah, seen the cats video. Do let me know what the album is like if you don't mind?

This made me :icon_lol: I recall helping a mate pack as he was moving, and was going through his tapes - all were home made compilations. Couldn't help but piss myself at "Feeling Shitty 91".
