The Music Thread Strikes Back

Was listening to a Rick Wakeman interview the other day and he recalled signing a Yes lp for some kid and he said
"what you doing listening to this old stuff"
The young lad took great offense at this and replied.
"It may be old to you... but its new to me"
Wakeman said he had never forgot that.

Ill accept some Suicidal T and lay down some classic DRI

Ah, DRI. Remember seeing them at the Hammersmith Clarendon in 1987 with Napalm Death and Holy Terror. Marvellous gig apart from some git jumping off the top of the Marshall stack and landing on my head.

Anyway, I see your DRI and raise you a Gang Green.

Gang Green were fucking ace. Coincidentally, I did a PA dive off the stacks at a Gang Green concert in Milton Keynes.

I don't really know them. Saying that, the newer stuff they played at Sonisphere in July really stood up well. They were tremendous.

Give them a whirl. It's more evolved than the earlier albums and the twin vocals harmonise really well. I don't think they are quite as good as Dirt in some places (it's one of my favourite albums so I may be bias), but it more than matches in others.

A recommendation for you:

Foxygen - We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace and Magic

A bloody ace album with many a nod to the likes of the Kinks, Velvet Underground etc. Very easy on the ear. I think I'm going to try and find Foxygen's other albums from somewhere.

Speaking of old music, they played Psychedelic Shack by the Temptations on the radio this morning. Blinding song:

I often make compliations on iTunes - I did my latest one on Sunday and looking at it, there are plenty of old tracks on there! The artists:

Blind Faith
Muse
The Flaming Lips
AC/DC
Alice Cooper
The Bad Shepherds
Elbow
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Arcade Fire
Green Day
The War On Drugs
Genesis
Johnny Cash
Mumford and Sons
Foxygen
Roger Waters
