Weird appointment. Team who cannot defend employs man who cannot organise a defense.

I'd rather have gone for someone like Chris Wilder than Marsch. He would rebuild the club from the ground up if they went down

Wilder has been a bit shit since his glory season with Sheff Utd.

He has now reached the level of being linked with Scottish clubs

He took a side who had overperformed in the previous season down and failed at his next gig. You can understand why he has been given a wide berth.

TBF to Wilder it was from league One to the Premier League with a fabulous placing given their resources so a bit more than a one season wonder.

Wilder left Boro in the bottom three and Carrick has since gone P16 W11 D1 L4 with pretty much the same players, in his first ever job. It's not a good look for Brexit Chris.

I did say glory season rather than 1 season.

His record was indeed very good and deserved all the praise he got but since his best season (aka his glory season) he has headed downwards

Carrick could do a Steve Cooper on it and bring them up .

It's a strange one with Wilder that his stock is already so low, he actually did well in that first season at Middlesbrough to turn around a side that looked pretty shit under Colin into play-off contenders although the wheels did fall off by April. Good cup run as well. The Boro fan I know was pretty optimistic about how they would do under Wilder this season but it turned out to be disastrous for whatever reason.

Are Saints owners 'Mericans?
Only Americans would employ an American at football innit

Marsch-ball can work with some small tweaks and better defenders than he had at Leeds (particularly the fullbacks). But he's too damn stubborn to do the former and at Southampton he won't have the latter.

Doomed to fail.

Marsch to Southampton is off as club don't want to give him a long term contract
