The Manager Sacked/Hired Thread 2014/15

Yeah, he's gone. Disaster of a manager. Anyone unfortunate enough to have watched his Man City or England U21 teams knew how clueless he was. The ultimate "name" appointment.

Dan Petrescu seems to be the favourite.

I'd love for them to appoint Roy Keane. Another fan favourite who'd do a shit job.

It is a shame that things did not work out for Pearce at Nottingham Forest, but I think the clubs owners were left with little choice.

I would say that was an absolute certainty.

Not sure about the appointment of Freedman either. He was pretty awful in his last job.

Isn't that tampering?

Not really. It is undermining the incumbent completely and hanging him out to dry. And when you consider what a legend Pearce is at Forest, no matter how poor a manager he has proved to be, the owners may well have permanently damaged relations with a lot of the fanbase. You just don't treat your legends this shoddily. If Pearce had to go (and he absolutely did) then let it be done with dignity and respect for a Forest great.

All this just makes me more convinced that Fawaz is an utter prick of an owner.

Agreed Paddy, Nottingham Forest have not done themselves proud with the way they have acted.

There's a great online spat between two Forest fans on FF. Great viewing..

Let's not pretend this isn't commonplace. Wolves were marked out as naive for sacking Mick and having no-one lined up, it can't work both ways. I don't doubt Freedman has been sounded out - but Pearce was given more than enough rope. He could quite reasonably have been sacked three months ago based on results relative to expenditure (his own) and expectations. He's also been offered another role at the club so I don't think it's killing Bambi's Mom - it's a very poor manager, fortunate to get the job, even more fortunate to hang on for so long, purely down to his playing history at Nottingham Forest, being put out of his misery for everyone's good.

Fawaz strikes me as a lower profile Fernandes - they mean well but know nothing about football. I wouldn't put either in the Tan, Whelan, Bates, Oyston etc bracket.

I don't dispute that Dan. Pearce's results deserved the bullet. Mind you, there is a way that it should be done with a club legend. And replacing him with Freedman seems insane. Freedman was an absolute clusterfuck at notlob. This seems to be out of the frying pan and into the fire.

Fawaz is a prick, but probably I will concede, a well-intentioned prick. Oyston, on the other hand, is a horrendous owner.

What strikes me about Fawaz/Fernandes is that for successful businessmen, they don't half seem starstruck by "names" in football. Fernandes has said as much about Hughes, that he ended up interviewing the club rather than the other way round, and he's allowed 'Arry to do what he always does and hang on despite truly appalling results. It's the only way you can explain Pearce being appointed by Forest - and also how O'Driscoll got binned for bloody McLeish. Closer to home look at Morgan taking some shocking advice from "legends" to appoint Saunders.

Having a rich owner is all well and good but it is absolutely critical that to go along with that you have strong football people who know the game inside out at all levels, AND that the owner listens to them and lets them get on with running the club. A big wallet and watching a few games doesn't necessarily qualify you to run a club and make the key decisions. Not to make them effectively anyway.
