The Live Match Discussion Thread: 2019/2020

Ahem! I don't think you know your MLS history. Vancouver Whitecaps have been right up there until they fired Carl Robinson as coach two years ago. Which also reminds me that there is a Wolves connection with Alphonso Davies. Not just from me who first saw him as a future star on his debut four years ago when he displayed his inordinate speed and wonderful skills, but more importantly, he was nurtured by Carl Robinson (ex-Wolves) and then sold to Bayern for $17 million two years ago. Carl, of course, is now with Newcastle Jets in Australia but his role in the development of the "Fonz" should never be overlooked. Carl's a very good coach and Alphonso is an amazing player whom Europe is just getting to see, and he's only just turned 19!

Even you can't deny that Vancouver were very much on the way down in Carl's last season in charge. Not nearly as bad as since his departure, of course, but still not very good.

I like the 'Caps quite a bit, but they've never been a consistent power since the move up. Had some decent sides under Carl, sure, but even just in Cascadia they've generally been the third side out of three.

Freely admit I know next to nothing about the club pre-MLS.

City behind to Lyon, strange decision by Pep to completely change formation to match them.

City just starting to get in behind Lyon towards the end but overall simply not good enough at this level. To be fair Lyon do have some real quality in their side and look very well organised.

Changing formation and Mahrez generally has changed everything.

Kyle Walker showing why he’s out of favour with England very lucky not to give away a penalty there

It's totally on Pep if they go out, wrong formation from the start has put them in this position.

City back line tonight has been awful Walker, Laporte in particular

The BT clowns still going on about a foul, Laporte tripped over his own legs the way I saw it.
